So I'm from Southeast PA. I've been a huge fan of wagons. For some reason I just like the thought of being able to put almost anything in the back. Anyways I'm looking to pick up a wagon for cheap hopefully. There's a 1980 Pontiac Lemans Safari wagon for sale with a V6 and going for $995 at a little used lot. Found out my friend even knows the owner of the place. Looking to get a cheap cash deal out of it. Going to be my project car.
Welcome to the nut house we call home. That Pontiac sounds terrific, and the price is certainly right! One thing to watch on those cars in the rust belt, and that is the rear frame rails, behind the rear wheels. They can be repaired fairly easily if you have the skill set, as the rail extensions are available new from the after market. Just something to be aware of on those cars. Have fun no matter what you do.
Mike thanks for the info. I'm not expecting it too go quickly. I need a month roughly to find some cash. Doesn't come easy since I'm getting married in a few months. I just need a car in my possession. Body is rough but this car will be meant to look like **** on the outside. Link to the add below. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/ctd/3828383292.html
That is a great looking car! If you can get that for under $1,000, go for it, even if it does need frame repairs. It is a fairly basic model, but it has one quite unusual option, and that is the gauge package. That normally means the heavy duty cooling package, the light package, and the comfort/convenience package as well, since they were mandatory options to be able to order the gauge package. Judging by the look of the back bumper, you may get very lucky with the fame, too. It is sitting at the right height and angle, so there is a good chance the frame is not too bad. Good luck, and keep us up to date.
That is a really nice deal! If you want the ****box look, I'd just pop the one dent, and replace the rub strips. The rest shows well, and I like the original wheel covers too. I loved my '78 Grand Prix, this is practically the same car. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did my car!
Plan would be a turbo LS swap. I'm more of a Ford guy, but my friends are diehard Chevy guys, so they will be able to shed a little more light on what's needed.
