Then you get the "what's the big deal man! It's just a car!" grrrrr.... I think there are just fewer people anymore who really care. Which makes it harder for those of us who do. You have a very nice CC. Tim
Come on guys. It's just an old 21 year old station wagon. Nobody drives those anymore! Be different. Get an SUV! Sorry, I had to do it!:banghead3: When I see people putting keys, purses, groceries, etc on the roof, fenders, and trunk of their own new cars it makes me angry!
I'm driving my Safari ('The Way-Back Machine') regularly, running errands and such. I'm trying to pick remote spots, where's there no one on either side - not always possible. I get a little paranoid then. We were at Applebee's the other day, and I was able to get the handicapped spot right by the front door (wife has a plackerd). Also got a booth right there too, so I was able to watch it as well. Got quite a few second glances at it.
After the hailstorms I was miserable to find a couple of new hail dents on my Ciera. Worse yet two of them are on the bright beltline window trim pieces and those are like plastic so I may not be able to fix them, they'll have to be replaced. But at least with the Torino, I can't tell. It could have a hundred more hail dents but I wouldn't see them. That car was already a golf ball before the baseball sized hail came down!!! After it's painted you'll see me get a lot more protective of it.
Krash, and other station wagon worry warts, I do the same about trying to park away from others. What I have never understood is the people who park demo derby rejects over the lines right next to my car while I am shopping. Not just one. There may be a car on either side and front or behind mine where no one was parked when I took that place. I believe it is for the same reasons we have chosen secluded campsites to wake up or return from someplace to find RV's practically in our site! They are lonely. As Art Linkletter used to say "people are weird." Okay that's not what he said! I don't like to do it, but often use my handycapped blue card. I needed it when I got two new hips but really don't need it now as much as those 21 year old jocks who take the spots before I can get one!
All I can say is it's going to happen. I've got that '58 out there in the parking lot and won't be surprised at all if I go out there today after work and find my first ding in the door. A lot of people are mindless pods that walk around clueless.. unfortunately that is just world in which we live. I do sympathize with your situation however. Guess that's why there is something to be said for the rat rod look?
That is why my car retains the smasher look. The wicked ugly rub rails and Massive bumpers are growing on me. A u-haul and I had a bumper rub, enough for me to feel in traffic. We both waved and kept on driving. Just like the good old days. Los Angeles traffic is the Worst.
I can remember when bumpers were built for---bumping. If the guy ahead was stalled or stuck we pushed him. When we parked parrallel and the spot was a bit too small, we pushed the car ahead or back. When we got bored we played---bumper tag! When they designed new crunch zone cars what were they thinking?
Personally, I refuse to let the actions of some jerks cause me to lower my own standards to theirs. I prefer my cars to look good, I try to avoid door dings and parking lot bumps and marks, but it happens. I fix them. Like 81 it really disappoints me but its life, you just have to deal with it.
