How many cars have been replacements for what I've always dreamed of owning. From the first magazine I was given with a flamed out yellow 55 nomad when I was 16 to today, I've dreamed of owning what I think is the coolest car that ever came from Detroit. Every car has been a dreamy keeper that I've bought, built and sold because they just dont have the personal attachment, the deep rooted passion that the 55 Nomad had for me. In April I found a California Nomad that was affordable, drivable and for once, I was able to strike when the iron was hot. It's far from being mint. So am I. It'll be a car that pinheads can rip apart at a car show because it hasnt got all the must have nomad trim ( headlight eyebrows) and those old 70's rally wheels that just about everyone had. But it's an old 70's build and I'm in love. It's exactly what I wanted when I was 16 and remains my dream car. I'm a kid at heart and have no dreams of turning this into a high dollar trailer queen. She'll get driven as is and as time and money allows I'll get new chrome, maybe some old skool Fenton mags but when I look at it, to me she's perfect. Happy camper??? OOHHHHYEAH!!!
Happy yes, but where's the camper? Dear Lono and vintage long-roof fans, . . . . Okay, I get the happy part, but don't you need one of these to be a camper? You see, you really do never have enough toys!! Cheers, Edouard
THAT is the face of a happy man! I'm so happy for you too, Lono! '55 is my favorite year of Nomad, and yours looks perfect! Love the clean look of it, though I'm glad it still sports it's chrome ribs on the tailgate. Love the Fenton mags idea, but other than that, I wouldn't change a thing! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima David
Congratulations on achieving your 36 year dream! Don't even try to apologize for having it the way you want it! She's your baby now, enjoy her! All these cars are important to us, from the one that needs paint and upholstery, engine work, to the ones that are taken out once a week from the climate controlled garages. They're all important!
Great buy, Lono! I'm sitting here thinking how neat it would be to own one of those. Very cool, very cool..... Marshall
You guys, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.. I still walk out to the shop just to look to see if its there. I was in for a safety inspection today and didnt pass. I need to update those California tires before I can put it on the road. Other than that a couple small things that'll be done in in a weekend. For now, I need to start saving for some new tires, which means updating the rims at the same time... sigh.
Lono does that mean I still have a chance to make that same dream come true? There's only one thing I'd do to your 55 Nomad. Put my name on the title and wave goodbye as I drive off with that same big ole smile. But you know I couldn't do that if it were possible. It's your wagon and your dream come true. I drive my 55 handyman because I could afford it and it's a driver. Every Nomad I've found was either a piece of junk or an expensive show car. I don't want either. I'm not saying yours is not an expensive show car. All Nomads are. But like you, I want a Nomad driver we can use like I use my Handyman. And a red and white one would be nice!
