Hello All! My name is George and I stumbled upon this site through trusty ol' Google. I'm perusing the Classifieds in search of a Roadmaster or something GM in the 84 and up category. I'm more concerned about the body being solid than the powertrain because I'll be changing it out.
You must not have owned that Audi very long, George. I bought a 2000 A6 Avant in 2003, and after that it was $1,000 to the Audi dealer every time I took it in - cowl drains plugged up, flooded the carpets; timing belt replacement (before it broke on me) - $1,000, yada yada yada..... Anywhos, welcome george to the SWF. We get lots of leads here on wagons for sale. There's bound to be at least one or two you're going to be interested in.
Actually, I'm pretty good with working on German cars. I currently own three VW's. But if you aren't familiar with them and don't have the tools, you have some really hefty bills from them. I'm looking at an RM down in Ohio (found it on CL), need to contact the guy and find out more about it. Like... will it make it to my house? Thank you all for the warm welcome. I'm looking forward to this little project.
I have seen a couple of squarebacks for sale down here and almost bought one of them. Then I came to my senses even though I have all the tools. I saw a VW van on CL today for $1000, but it had been rear ended and both rear quarters were caved in. As an aside, I used to have a kid working for me that could start with a bug sitting on the ground and have the engine out in 7 minutes flat. We timed him once cause we thought he was pulling our leg, but he actually did it.
I have a ton of old VW stuff that I still need to retrieve out in NY. My father was a pretty heavy enthusiast with the old Super Beetle and had parts on hand just in case. He passed away August of last year at the age of 57, and nobody in the family wants any of it except me. I remember him pulling the engine out, lifting it up off the ground without a hoist and putting it on the bottom section of his Craftsman toolbox. But I don't think he ever did it quite THAT fast.
