So I brought home my new Electra Estate wagon today. It came with a 3 inch thick sheaf of service records, every single thing that was EVER done to that car since 1988, including original bill of sale and bill of sale to second owner.

After skimming over some of the bills, more on that in a later post, believe me,you guys will be shocked with what I will be reporting later, I just HAD to call the original owner( well, 2 nd owner)

Imagine how surprised she must have been! She was so relieved when I told her the car was going to a loving and appreciative owner. We must have chatted for a good 15 mins before I had to say goodbye.

I did promise her I will drive to her house sometime this summer and we will go for a drive in the car. Her husband passed away 3 years ago and he lavished care on his car.

Anyhow, I asked her how she sold the car to the dude I bought if from. She didn't know what to do with the car so she just put it up on kijij, but she WAS going to call the SCRAP YARD!!!!!!!!

So up it goes online, dude answers the ad and gives her $300 for it.!!!

He doesn't even register it in his name, turns around and sells it to me for 1700. With a fake story attached, btw.

But, you know, I kinda don't care that much. It's what I was looking for and I still think I got a fair price on it,and I couldn't live with myself if I cheated someone out of something, especially an old lady selling her deceased husband car.

More updates to come once the car goes up on the hoist ect ect.

I am sure I will have MANY questions....:D

Nice. Sounds a little similar to my wagon story. What year is your wagon?

He only gave her 300 bucks for it??
I told you there was no honor among thieves and wagon guys.:rofl2:
I would have given her scrap value for it at least.;)

Still what theshnizzle wrote, what someone else paid doesn't matter. She feels as if she got a good wagon and a good deal. I agree. sure nicer than those projects we saw earlier. And now her boyfriend has more time to take her out wining and dining rather than work on an old wagon. :cheers:A win win situation.:taz:

The car is an 88. Boy, it's pretty gutless though. I was surprised how gutless it was, actually. So........I guess that means I have to add a RMW LT1 to the crowd now, won't I?.

What's wining and dining?....... For valentines day I asked for a valve clearance check for my motorcycle......:)

I am not into baubles and shiny things, anniversary s or birthdays or anything like that. I don't want or need flowers, candy, dinners ect, ect.

But when I see my bike up on the lift or my car on the hoist, that's all the presents I need......

Well, you're our kind of people, and we look forward to seeing pics of it! Why don't you find an '80s Electra engine for it? Happy Motoring!

If the car is that gutless, the first thing to do is to make sure the exhaust is flowing. The cat may be clogged which will kill fuel economy and gas mileage. It will never be a barn burner, but it should be able to get out of its own way at least. Also, it may limber up as you drive it, too. Old cars stiffen up with sitting too much, just like we do as we age.

theshnizzle listen to Mike. Just took the first ride in my Dodge truck after getting the Cats cleaned out and dual exhaust. Like a new truck. Actually sounds and feels like it's got a Hemi! The fuel mileage kept going down and it lost power so slowly I didn't notice till much later.

Also, you sound like my wife. Even her birthday is on Valentines Day and she'd rather go camping or take a ride on a motorcycle or old car.

Well I took the car today for its certification and emissions testing and it passed everything with ease. Yippee!!!! I am legal! I am shocked that it passed emissions because it sounds like it might have a exhaust leak or something.

A bit of a rumble going on back there. And it hesitates and sounds like it is stumbling a bit on the up shift but then when you step on it with some pressure it shifts and smooths out.

More info when I go through those service records.

Oh, and the mechanic said the car has a nice thick coat of under spray.
