Went to the Barrett Jackson auction on Saturday. It's always a good time but not too many wagons this year. The show( I call it a show because I'm just looking, not buying) hasn't been as good the last few years but I think that's because there are a lot more Barrett Jacksons now so the cars are spread around. I hope to some day get to the big one in Arizona. Still enjoyed it and late in the afternoon one of the bidders that was leaving gave me her pass. That let me get into the VIP areas, I was even on the stage when they sold the $300,000 Shelby Mustang. Cool experience.

img_2851.jpg This was the star of the show IMO. '53 Mercury Monterey that was incredible. It sold for $50,000 ($55,000 with the buyer's premium).

This '53 Mercury Custom was pretty tired. It had an updated 302 engine/trans and sold for $14,000.

    img_2868.jpg
Hot '55 Nomad that went for $62,000.

    img_2865.jpg img_2862.jpg

'51 Desoto that wasn't a woody. This is a very convincing custom paint job. Very unique and professionally done, sold for $23,000.

Since there wasn't that many wagons I added a few others that caught my eye.

2004 F-650 Suv stretch limo. Who doesn't need one of these? Unbelievable and seemed like a steal at $46000. This had to have cost 4 times that when new.

I've always loved Rancheros and 1972 might be my favorite. This was a low mileage original that went for $25,000.

This was a custom Town and Country roadster, billed as the car Chrysler wanted to build but didn't. Somebody wanted it for $109,000.

We watched a bit of BJ over the weekend. Too bad you didn't have your SWF t-shirt on when you were on the stage, we would have waved to you. ;)

When it's on we always talk about going sometime??? Maybe we could do Florida, Cat could take us out for a real burger at Steak n Shake. :) That would have great getting up on the stage, how was it?

It's always a great time with lots to see and an interesting crowd. It's smaller than their big auction in Arizona, only three days but it's also closer. The first few times they had it here it was a lot more laid back, as a spectator you could pretty much go anywhere including onto the stage. Then they went big time plus added the TV show so that limited what you could do as a non-bidder. Getting on stage was a thrill, I really felt like a high roller. I haven't seen to much of the TV coverage but I do know that if you don't blink you can see me.

I had that in my head as a project years ago. My idea was to mate a 4-door Torino sedan or wagon, to an unaltered Ranchero bed - '77 model year for both. Only thing was, by the time you spliced the frame together to get the proper length, the wheelbase would be pretty long. I'm pretty sure you would have to add some reinforcement to avoid frame flex.

And this is all in my head, anyway. No way would I be able to do it. I saw a pic of something similar once. Didn't come off too well...

Well, I just checked again. Didn't find any 'modern' ones, but I did find this:

Leave off the ugly towing mirrors and toss the blonde in the front seat and I'll take it.
    Fannie, come on down.
Also embarrassed to say but forgot details ---My buddy told me his ???? Plymouth Sport Fury, gold or tan, that he got $18,000 for recently. sold for around $22,000 down there.

I zoomed. She was way more than 13 or 14 then.
And my wife said I'd still have a better chance adopting a 13 year old than a 50 or 60 year old.
She's just not as fun as she used to be!:biglaugh::evilsmile:
