I'm digging around for a Sanyo FT-417 Cassette Car Radio wiring diagram. It's a 2 channel radio (Front/Rear) because I can't figure out my Toshiba TX-304 digital station scanning system (4-channel) and I don't have that manual either.

I had the Sanyo in my Squire before the Resto, and it did OK. The Toshiba came with the 1978 Donor fairmont 2-door, but no manual for the digital features. Cassette works fine, but the scanner just loops from station to station, and I can't switch from AM/FM or vice-versa.

    Anyway, no luck so far.

Right. It just keeps scanning. I never tried it before I tore the car apart. It was a cold November in 2006, and I wanted to swap the engines before the snow got deeper. I stripped every thing out of the donor to cut it up and get it out of the way (chopped up with a sawzall). But the 4-channel feature caught my attention so when I restored my Squire, I made sure I had the wiring harnesses all set up for the Ford Premium stereo (4-channel). The Sanyo came with my Squire. When I upgraded the wiring, I found out that the installers by-passed the stock 4-channel setup with lampwire. The original wiring was still there, just unused.

Both the Sanyo and this Toshiba have the dual-knob shafts, which I like. You never have to look away from the road. Just twiddle the knobs.:rofl2:

I've got a Panasonic with the removable faceplate, but the digital display was kicked in. It works. But you're always flipping with those idiot pimples they call pre-sets. All are cassette stereo.

I found some really neat 'classic car' replacement sites with knob-type systems with digital displays, MP3/WMA plug-ins from the front, but we're into the $500 to $1,000 for a radio? I'm not that much of a purist! :rofl2:

If I was really stuck, I can get a Ford Premium Stereo with amplifier for under $100.

The Sanyo has a round connector on the cables coming out from the back:

    Aug31RadioPics01.jpg

    Black - Ground
    Red - Power
    Green - Speaker
    Yellow - Speaker
    Red/white stripe - Dash light

And a green one coming off the side where the antenna lead is. (I assume it's for a powered antenna.

Inside that connector (on the radio side), the black wire has two other branches that become a blue wire, grey wire and white wire. They mimic the separate ground wires for each speaker channel.

What if I'm wrong about the wires though? The Sanyo is from the 80's, so if it fries, I'll have to get another. I just won't go digital functionality.

If I could figure out the Toshiba, it would save me a bunch of work. This coming week is about it for above freezing weather. Otherwise, I'll install the Sanyo for now.

Do you have any ideas on reviving the Toshiba from it's loop-d-loop?

    Ok...

Is your antenna cable ok?(cable and the connection of the radio?)
Maybe if you press the "seek" button and keep it pressed, you get in to the "manual search" mode? It's difficult for me to judge the radio from the other side of the world, but I don't think your wiring is the problem of the scan funtion! You said your cassette player works ok(your speakers work ok than?) So i think there's a "trick" to get into the scanfunction!

I hope you can fix it with my answer,(y)

Never knew about that! I'll try it! Thanks. If that fails, I'll switch to the Sanyo this week. We have a few days over 0C degrees. Thanks for the tip.

    Not Free but wow!

This is just about electronics manuals (Service and User). Pretty complete too! They have a Sanyo FT-400, not my FT-417, and they have the Toshiba TX-304.

32F (0C) on Tuesday. It was -20C (7F) this morning. We've had about 6 inches of snow for 15 days, already. Hard-packed ice, dry roads. But ccccold!

Have you heard of that new book about Canada's North?

"Frozen Yellow Falls" by I. P. Standing.;)

It's not on the Best Sellers' List. :rofl2:

Nope, I'm a Jazz fan! And Earth, Wind & Fire. Guess Who, Bachman, Turner, Overdrive.

My wife is the Romantic. All Mexican and Spanish artists. Well, and Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole.
