i surf craigslist car ads in my spare time ...which i dont have much of as of late. 2 months ago i came across a "show room clean" 1984 F150 XLS stepside. with a 3-on-the-tree. and low miles. i thought "if i sell tiki soon enough...this might be a neat truck to have." well i didnt but the older fellow 1 block down went and bought it to use as a daily driver. well...it was cleaner than it looked in the pictures...a gorgeous truck! FAST FORWARD... he hit a patch of ice in the snow storm last week and smashed the front in!!!
I have 2 words for him: SNOW TIRES! They do help a lot! Hope he was okay, and I hope that the truck survives to fight another day as well.
Very unfortunate for him (and you as an interested observer). Hopefully he gets it repaired, and properly, and keeps it in decent shape. If not, and he decides to scrap it, would that be something you could pick up cheaply and repair when the funds become available? Just wondering.
I'm always 'taking notice' of the vehicles around the neighborhood (a guy around the corner has a very nice '69 El Camino for instance), and I usually notice when somebody has changed cars. Also notice all the new crash damage (kid on the corner has bashed up his '90 or so Chevy P/U at least a couple of times....). Most people seem to not be 'car people' - ordinary vehicles for the most part. I'd have to say though that my Safari is the most unusual.
I can't say as I've had the need for snow tires since I moved here. I'm not even sure they sell them here.........
But if you AZ, La., and Fl people ever did get 1/2inch of snow they'd have to call the National Guard and close all businesses for a week.
They just about do that here...and we get snow nearly every single winter. It's embarrassing. People that moved here from back East just shake their heads. Last week, about 1/2 inch of snow fell in Portland...a little more North of here...and the news reporters were "on the scene" giving updates . I couldn't believe it. In December of 2008, we got 18" of snow/ice the week of Christmas. Now, that was newsworthy...but for just 1/2 inch...??? Please!
