I was thinking about all the various cars we seem to own.

    Just wondering who has what.

We currently have the '57 Safari (bought it '81 and we've put thousands and thousands of miles on it), the '70 SS Chevelle (bought in '06 with 47K miles) and the S10 (her toy - a 2dr 2wd, 4.3L she loves, 40K miles). We also have one vintage Airstream a 1960 Tradewind, that we tow often with the '57 Safari. We just sold our 1951 Airstream Flying Cloud.

Ah, yes, the Chevelle. Thanks for asking. I'm fourth owner, the car came out off the prairies and brought to the BC interior in 1979 and used as a show car. In 1996 it was taken off the road and disassembled for a body off the frame restoration. The frame was done with mostly NOS but some aftermarket parts, back to stock, and the body was gone through and repainted and set on the frame. Then the owner had a major health issue and it sat from 2001 till we bought it in Jan 2006. It took four trucks, one also pulling the trailer with the car, to bring the car home. Then I had a major health issue and it took 5 years and three guys from the car club coming every Tuesday and working with me to get the car done. It isn't perfect, an example,we reused the original back window glass and side glass and they are not show quality but they are fine to me. It is all numbers matching which is nice but it didn't really matter to me, so a bit of a surprise. It rides and runs like our brand new one did, and the SS454 we bought that was a few months old. That car I know where it is but the owner, who has had it since about '81, has no interest in selling it, he'd rather it rot on his driveway because "someday" he is going to restore it. It was an LS5 car that I put an LS7 in, for quite some time it had a clutch turbo set up but I put it back to the original T400 before I foolishly sold it. We loved that car and I was an idiot to sell it and I'd promised my wife I'd buy another and then got caught up with other "stuff" until this one came along. This one is a 396, 4 speed, posi, dealer installed air, PS, PB, cowl hood, cranberry red with white stripes (were factory black but he liked the white and the car was painted when I got it, just totally blown apart. Nothing but the frame was complete (mostly). I've got all the documentation for the car including from GM with the build info. It amazes me how the younger generation. Teens right through to people in their gray hair days are always all over the car. A bit embarrassing at times as you try to get away to where you are supposed to be.

It is a very nice car to drive, has lots of blast, but we still gravitate to the wagon when we go out (other than I broke the wagon *sigh* so will be tearing it apart in the next few weeks). The Safari is like our kid, we've had it so long. It is not perfect but it is the way we like it, we drive it hard, put it away wet, and I cannot imagine not ever having it and not driving it. As a late friend who had a '57 Nomad told us, they are toe tag cars. No one is getting them until there is a tag on your toe in the morgue.:rofl2:

I suspect we will sell the Chevelle in a year or two but may give it to our equivalent of a kid. We'll see how things go, he's getting the wagon and every thing in my shop when we die, but he doesn't know that. Good man, really in to cars, he'll love the hoist and all the other tools I've gathered over 48 years. One other thought we've had and at present the way our wills are set out is the wagon goes to the Humane Society to auction so we are going to alter than and have the car valued and that amount will instead go to the Humane Society paid out of our estate so the kid doesn't have to shell out any bucks. We have a soft spot for the critters in "jail" and a big chunk of our estate will go that way to support their programs.

Wow, you have quite the collection. My brother in law is really into Chrysler products. He still has his '70 cuda AAR with white interior and panther pink or whatever they call that color, tucked away. A '71 Challenger convert. A '70 Duster, and several others in the later 60's. His buddy still has his '70 hemi 'cuda he bought new and it has and my bro in laws AAR have not been on the street since '81. Sad eh? Those cars should be used, both are stock, run, they just don't have the motivation to actually use them. My other brother in law, who passed away in '94, had a '70 cuda convertible that was sold when he passed and ended up with Don Johnson and sold for big bucks at BJ years ago. My wife is the black sheep in the family with GM's

Just the '58 Chevy Sedan Delivery and a '31 Ford closed cab pickup. I recently put a crate 350 engine and B&M TH350 in the Chevy and completely rewired the car. I put laminate flooring in the back, and plan to get some stainless strips from a pickup supplier to go on the seams of the flooring. The Ford was the first car I ever did a complete frame off, and I rebuilt a 4.3 V6 and installed a TH350 behind that going to a 9 inch Ford Posi. The V6 works real well in the Model A as it's about 150 pounds lighter than a small block V8, and it's putting out around 275 HP, which is plenty for a 2500 lb truck.

I don't have anything "collectable" but I have-
    66 Ford wagon project
    67 Ford wagon project
    69 Ford F350 flatbed/dump (factory dump)
and a 1940 GMC 1.5 ton truck that I have been dragging around with me for about 15 years. It doesn't run but it's on the To-do list when my son gets of age and shows interest in old vehicles.

not sure how collectable is defined, but heres the cars we have
for cruising fun, and hauling our stuff for my car club's cruises we have our 65 Ford Country Sedan, currently 302 with what I believe to be the c3 trans. 3:50 posi rear. We call it our death wagon, it is commonly confused for a hearst, its black with dark tinted windows.

For the not so laid back, rides horrible, but satisfies the noise and adrenaline needs cruising, I drive a 63 Ford Falcon, 347 c4 reverse manual valve body 3:80 geared. Usually when I drive this to cruises, the wife drives the more comfortable riding wagon.

For daily drivers I have a 2008 Silverado, extended cab 2wd. Got have something to pull a trailer, right.
And the wifes daily driver is a 2010 SS2 Camaro. Yes that is the 6 speed manual. Of course it has all the bells and whistles. Neat car for short people in my opinion, but uncomfortable for me.

Here's my list of vehicles owned right now:

    01 Tahoe.........wife's car
    86 MonteCarlo SS..........bought new
    71 C30 Longhorn pickup..........parts chaser, getting a 454 transplant soon
    66 Chevelle 4 speed car.......about 98% done
    56 210 2 door sedan.......about 50% done
    47 Chevy 2 door sedan........in a million pieces......

and, recently purchased, at my house, my daughter and son-in-law's 67 Malibu wagon project.

All happen to be Chevy's, but we've also had:

62 Dodge Custom 880 2 door hardtop (one of 1761), restored and sold to a guy from Belgium.
73 Dodge Dart, resto'd, made a daily driver, drove 150K and sold rather than redo
56 Studebaker President 2 door wagon, hot rodded, and sold to build a 5 car garage and finish the Chevelle.

The fleet keeps me busy and out of trouble in the shop......works for us.

    Bill
