Started our day at Costco, bout a load of caned soups, veggie, chicken noodle, cream of mushroom, 20 cases to be exact. Our plans were to bring it to the food bank and then go shop else where for the same. As we left, by fluke 2 ladys were just packing up the local food bank van from store donations so we just unloaded the cart rite into there van and we told them we would see them later in the morning. So we went home and unloaded our stuff and went to another store for the food bank, and I grabed the camera........while unloding at home, Deb crabed our local gazet paper from the mail box. On the front page they were also asking for food for pets. Odly enouph Deb and I had never though about that so in the load also is caned dog and cat food Round 2 that we delivered........... Me being me, I only remembered the camera after 1/2 the stuff was unloaded....... Both Deb and I have had harder times in our lives when we were young, We never had to go to a food bank, we both have been helped by friends in our younger years, and also by complete strangers........... It is the season everyone, better to give than recieve, even if all you can give seems like nothing..........give a little, some where, some how
Thanks for the reminder Tedy and Deb. Lots of needy in our little town and surrounding tri-counties. Bless you both and HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
Tedy, you and Deb are an inspiration! That is the only way to describe you. I had hoped to be able to do the same thing, but the car had other ideas and decided to die today. Car shopping so I can work begins tomorrow. No car, no income, so it has become an urgent situation. Based on that, I guess it will be New Year or shortly after that the food bank here gets a delivery. Looks like I'll be getting a 78 Grand Marquis sedan. That trunk will hold LOTS of groceries! Only hope my budget will allow me to fill it with food. Keep up the great work.
When our little old cat passed in September we had a bunch of food and stuff in stock. We called around to the various pet rescue places but were not getting called back so we took it to the Humane Society and they were delighted. At that time it had not occurred to us to donate to the food bank until just this past week when we saw an article in a local paper saying they were in need of pet supplies. We'll need to be doing what you and Deb have done. We also need to do a toy run as well, haven't found the time for that either and it needs to be done now and not left till too late. Thanks for the reminder Tedy. And you and Deb are phenomenal people. But we all knew that already.
to you, Tedy and Deb...and the rest of you lot. That's fantastic. We've tried to be good and do similar...some obvious (and some not-so-obvious ideas we've explored)... 1) Toys 4 Tots 2) The local Safeway stores have food bags for $10 that you can drop off at the front of the store after purchase 3) School supplies (lined paper, copy paper, pencils, facial tissues) for the schools 4) Donating coats to the local schools 5) Donating coats and other clothing to the local Child Welfare Department for foster children Of course, there are numerous others. For 5 years, Becky took a break from working high-tech and worked for the local school district at an elementary school (the work schedule worked great for us when our kiddos were younger). She learned that the schools are in great need (more than we had thought). Our kids' elementary school was simply great to us and we've felt called to give back. It's hard, though, because there are so many in need...not just the schools. We try to give evenly, if we can. It warms the heart to see so many generous people from all over here. Restores my faith in humanity. Keep giving where you feel called. It does make a difference. Cheers!!! I forgot to mention...it even is noticed by the kids. We went to a Christmas Cookie Decorating Party today. The family baked between 900 and 1000 sugar cookies. Of course, the majority won't be decorated at the party...but afterward, they donate them to the local Veterans Hospital and the shelter for homeless Vets. Afterward, my boys (ages 10 and 13) said that "it should be a law that no Vet goes homeless". It's amazing what kids pick up on and through our giving as adults, our children learn compassion and kindness. ...makes for a brighter tomorrow.
