Not mine, don't know the owner, posting out of general interest.

What do you all think of this car? A very, very nice-looking Country Sedan - almost perfect, in fact.

But a 223 cu. in. in-line six? In a big wagon such as this?

I didn't even know that the Country Sedan/Country Squire was offered with the 223 cu. in. I6 until I saw this car, and looked it up in my "Full Sized Fords" book. Jeez, this is so disappointing! With a big V8 this car would be perfect!

Lucky thing the highest things we have here out east are speed bumps. (OK, not quite true. We have "ski hills". :D)

I'm sorely tempted to go take a look at this one if I can convince my wife to (a) take a two-day road trip with me to see it and (b) let me spend money that I don't have on it. Even if it's only an I6.

Any estimates on what it should sell for? I would think the 223 cu. in. I6 should take $2-3k off the price. $12-15k maximum?

Great looking wagon and excellent :camera: in the ad. A 289 in this car and it would be perfect!

Beautiful wagon. In this shape, and being the 'mileage maker' I-6 and 3 speed manual, i would want to keep the old girl original. They can't have made all that many Galaxie Country Sedans with that drive train. Add the dog dish hub caps, and it adds up so something special indeed. Call me strange, but what I always wanted to see, and I know it was never built, was a Galaxie 500 XL Country Sedan. Buckets, console, and a 4 door hardtop roof line. That would be fun!

I've had that exact same idea myself. My version would be based on a '63 though. Loved those XL's ever since my dad's best buddy bought a brand new turquoise '63 2-door hardtop. And if you want to substitute in a 4-door hardtop's pillars on a Country Sedan, it shouldn't be that hard for an experienced body tech.

Man, this is exactly my style and in exactly the condition I like. Does anyone know if a third row bolts in or is the sheet metal different between the models? I'm guessing the third row is rear facing like other era Fords? Would anyone have a line on where to get a third row seat and hardware?

    D'oh! :slap:

This car could have been bought for $7k by anyone searching Cragslist in the Worcester, MA area in the past month:

Bet the current eBay seller wants ... a bit more than $7k. :naughty:

Ain't this a crying shame?

I have two country sedans a 63 and a 61 with the 223 and a three speed. They run great and have ok power but top out at about 70 mph. I am currently getting the parts together to do a three speed with overdrive swap. Also since it was suggested and I just bought a 63 four door parts car I might look at swapping out the door pillars it never occurred to me to do that but would make getting rear door gaskets easier.(y)

Riverz: If you have a 63 4 door hardtop Galaxie 500 XL, you have a very rare car there! It would really be a shame to wreck that one. If it is a Galaxie 500, without the XL package it is a more common car. That would really look neat. My whole point though, was to include the entire XL package in the wagon, with the bucket seats, console and floor shift. Maybe even go whole hog and put in a nice 6 speed Tremec manual, just for the Hell of it. Were I going custom, might as well go all the way. Which is exactly my long term plan with Nora. A nicely done 78 Thunderbird convertible, using all Ford parts.

No its not an XL just a galaxie but only has surface ruct on frame and body has no rust. Previous owner stripped and por 15 the car and primered it. Its still all taken apart so it makes it easier for me. Before someone gets mad at me for killing this car I told the owner i will that it if no one else wants the car to rebuild. The only person that wants it is me. Alot of people call and said nevermind when they found out it was a four door.

Top bid for this car was $7k. Some sort of cosmic justice going on here, I hope, considering the original seller was asking $7k for the car.

I was watching this auction intently but once the bidding got to $7K I lost hope.

If the original seller back in October was asking $7k for the car, my guess is that the current eBay seller bought it for around $6k and was hoping to sell it for $10-12k. Just a hunch. :)
