Not super serious, as I love the car. Just a thought. I'm really looking to downsize the fleet and would like to put the money into making my Caprice roadworthy once again.
I agree with Rev. Fix the Mercury. In my experience, that is the nicer car to drive. Also, parts are easier and less expensive for the Mercury, at least that's what my brother found between his 86 Parisienne and 86 Colony Park.
It's not about which car's the better car. It's about the sentimental value. I bought my Caprice when I was 17. I drove all my friends and myself around back in High School. The plan has always been to have it fixed up in time for my 5 year reunion and right now it looks worse than it ever did when I was in High School. The logical thing would be to redo the CP, all it needs is paint, two dents pulled, lock and window repair and she's show quality again.
So, the bottom line is, how much are you thinking of asking for the Mercury? Too bad it is too new for me. Because of our emissions testing, I won't look at anything newer than 87, but that 90 is one lovely car!
I don't really have a set price. Don't even know for sure if I want to sell. They say it's worth what two gentlemen can agree upon lol! She has her flaws. The interior is like brand new, though, minus scuffs and scratches in the cargo area (I keep the carpet over it, so you never see it) Needs paint and two dents attended to. Also needs a couple wiring gremlins fixed, opera lamps and dome lamps don't work, and of course the era-typical power window issues. The car is not perfect, but is reliable and I drive her every day (except in winter she's parked) All the stuff listed as problem is all things I'm trying to address. It gets overwhelming with five cars in the stable. I've pretty much said that they're all up for sale, now, minus the Caprice.
Too many in the fleet is why I sold my 65 country squire plus I needed some money to finish building a couple new daily driver projects,I am going to get me another wagon but its going to be one that can sit outside instead of needing to be garaged.
Need something to drive in the winter. Would rather sell the Colony Park than subject it to salt. The Town Car is still the Panther Platform, which is my favorite.
