On many Fords, the Tru-Track was available 3 different ways: As a stand alone option, as part of the Performance/Handling package, and as part of the Trailer Towing Package. It is an interesting thing to find the Tru-Track on an otherwise very bare bones car, and that is why I suspect it was a custom ordered car, not bought off the lot.

I know the original owner's family and at first I thought they had some kind of towing business but such was not the case. The guy,(he's dead now. RIP.) according to his sister, just went to Salem Or. one day and came back with it. It had to be one that was on the shelf.

I wonder if if it was a car that someone ordered and then backed out. I have seen some "oddball" cars on dealer lots like that.

I found a 1980 El Camino ordered with a V-6, four speed, radio delete, gauges, bucket seats, and the Super Sport package sans decals. Guy who ordered it lost his job a week before it was delivered. I was going to buy it and lost my job three days before signing the papers. The salesman swore the car was jinxed...

There are also the assembly line mistakes that mysteriously appear on dealers' lots. In 68, Ford accidentally made 4 LTD sedans, power windows, locks, seats and all, but with manual drum brakes, 427 CJ engines and 4 speed manual transmissions. At least one had the Brougham package, too. That one is still owned by the original owner, too, and is a true one of one, since the others were all different colours.

If you get a chance, go to my photos and look at the 427 top oiler me and my dad found in an old shrimp boat we bought. I think dad still has it but knowing him, he got some guy with a hotrod drooling over his checkbook to buy it! The other motor in the boat was a 428. I took that one and have regretted it ever since.
