I have been thinking about getting a set of steel wheels powder coated and was wondering if anyone has had it done?
    How well it held up?
What color did you have done?
These will be a set of wheels that will be used everyday.
Thanks for any and all information and feed back.

I had a set of four 16x8 eight-lug Ford wheels powder coated argent silver several years ago. Could've simply painted them myself and got a better-quality job! These started to show rust stains a couple of months afterwards, along where the coin meets the rim, and I live in a relatively dry climate. After a year, they looked like crap, and the powder coater (now out of business!) basically told me "tough $h!t"...So, as far as wheels go, get them stripped via soda or sandblasting, prime and then paint them yourself. I'll not waste my time or money again powder-coating wheels.

I think a lot of the trick to good powder coating is the prep and person performing the process. I had two sub bumpers powder coated jet black about 8 years ago and they both have held up excellently. That being said I believe a wheel takes much more abuse from the elements and when a tire is being mounted, depending on the machine used, the powder coat can be compromised where the rubber meets the rim and once the finish is chipped or marred it will chip and rust just like any other painted surface. I have seen both good and bad examples of powder coating. Media blasting and painting is far less expensive and can be maintained much easier.

Far as wheels go, I'll never waste the time again with powder-coating. Other parts are far more suited to powder-coating.

I wouldn't again on daily driver wheels because they will chip.
They chips are deep and hard to repair.
Paint is easy to touch up.
Prep is key. If the prep isn't perfect they'll rust anyways.

Gee Whizzer. I had a set of 8X15 cop wheels blasted and white pearl powder coated and hung on my A-100 pickup 15 yearz ago with those lil' dawg dish moonz and they still looked(y) when I sent it down the road two yearz ago. No rust thru' or chipz. If I hadn't sold it to a friend those wheelz would have stayed rite here on this Ponderosa:D Jer

    That really says it all.
Surface prep is CRITICAL no matter what coating you are putting on.
