Does anyone know the color of the paint and the type of paint I would use to paint the plastic bits in my car Navy Blue? THanks, Max.
Paint color/type... I do not know the color of your interior parts (by paint color name), but you should be able to take a sample piece to your local automotive paint supplier to get it matched. try to find a panel that has a hidden edge, so the color will be a true match. Most exposed plastics will have faded. as far as the type of paint to use, I have had excellent results using SEM Colorcoat. This can be mixed by your paint supplier, and can be sprayed in a couple of light coats (no more coats needed to achieve good results). It does not require any thinning. You can spray w/ a paint gun, or if you do not have a gun, use a pre-pressurized system such as Preval. Preval is available on-line, or at a paint supply store, or possibly a big box store. Good luck. David.
Paint color/type... maximax99.... I do not have a paint chart for 1987, but do have for 1986 & 1988. Colors may be the same for 1987. Some additional info. that may be helpful: From Sherwin Williams paint manual: Interior colors, 1988 Ford/Mercury. Listed are: Regatta Blue, trim code ending in "B", Ford # 4177-H, Sherwin Williams formula #34807 (semi-gloss) Shadow Blue, "B", Ford# 4193-H, also Ford# 4193-J, S/W Formula #s 36549 & 36556 (s.g). Dark Regatta Blue, "B", Ford # 4199-H, S/W formula # 38416, (s.g.). From the PPG color manual, interior colors, 1986 Ford/Mercury. Listed are: Regatta Blue, #15939 (s.g.), #15938 (low gloss). Midnite Blue, #15791 (s.g.), #15648 (l.g.). Midnite Blue, #16106 (l.g.). The location of the paint color codes are as follows: Interior trim code is located about the bottom center of the door sticker (the sticker that contains mfg. date, GAWR, and VIN #). Usually located on the driver door jamb or door shell. Your paint store may have color chips for you to look at. David.
x2 on SEM for plastic, you have to figure out what the right shade of blue SEM you need, that can be tough because they have a bunch of them and the color chips they show online don't mean much for exact matching. If you have to do a whole interior's hard plastic and steel parts you're better off having paint mixed at the paint store for it, it's just a lacquer with less gloss percentage than full.
Your blue interior is, I believe, the midnight blue. That colour is the same as the 86 and 88/89 interiors.
I use to do this alot to match up things for work when I owned a home theater company. We would take in a sample and they would scan it to get the formula to match it. I had them put it in a Rattle can so i could easily spray it and leave the rest with the customer. Worked great on plastic speaker grills and trims.
