Was that hitch original in 54, it looks real cool but is it only attached to the bumper? Trailers were pretty heavy back then other than those mini trailers tear drop style.maybe im missing something here, but i like when the trailers attached to the car not the bumper

I was wondering the same thing? Is it attached to something underneath?

Looks really cool and only $20. (y) Hope whatever your hauling doesn't rip your bumper off.

Nice car by the way. :)

There is a steel plate that attches under bumper to the underside of the hitch

:slap: Well that figures, I couldn't imagine that it only attached to the bumper. Thanks. :)

There are a couple issues I can see with that hitch. First, i would never leave it on when not in use. It will likely catch water, and could well rot out your bumper. The other thing I don't care for with that design is that a lot of the tongue weight is on the bumper. I much prefer hitches that are recessed under the car, and are frame mounted. Period correct looks are one thing. Modern safety is another.

Thanks for your comments :tiphat: I don't plan do much if any towing just wanted to find a kool accessory to fit the year. You might care for the design but that the way they were when it made. I guess you haven't seen my wagon .... A little more wear makes it better

    That hitch has excellent patina.:)
It brings back fond memories of my days working at the moving trailer rental place in the early 70's.
I destroyed more real chrome plated rear bumpers while installing temporary hitches than I care to admit.

The thing has got to be real leg basher though?
You should put an orange cone under it when you park at shows to prevent spectator lower limb carnage.
