The rear window on my new wagon goes up and down with some help. It is the only electric window on the car. I would like it to work properly. Is there any trick to fixing these? Is it similar to a regular window regulator?? Cna this be tightened up and fixed? Thanks Dave
Considering that it's a 48 year old motor (maybe) then I'll bet all the grease is hardened and the works pretty well gummed up with dirt. I always try to fix before replace so if the motor, which I am not familiar with, is anything like regular window motors there's probably a gear mechanism that can be disassembled and cleaned and greased with fresh grease. Then all the other levers or mechanical bits can be cleaned and lubricated. Being that old the motor may need new brushes as well. The good thing is you have all the bits in a "working" condition. First I'd suggest to clean and lube everything.
The old power window motors were repairable on GM cars. You might try an auto-electric shop for parts. Also, these sites might be able to direct you to some sources: http://www.automobilearchives.com/ http://www.classicchevroletparts.com/ This guy is a Buick man, with lots of GM info. http://www.rowand.net/Shop/Tech/index.htm He's got some info on power windows. http://www.rowand.net/Shop/index.htm
Thanks!! I guess, I will take a stab at cleaning it. Just wanted to make sure that it wasn't some thing with belts and vacuum lines!!! Kidding!!
Nah! You just have to bite your lip on the left side and wink twice, while you try to get the giggling pin into the laughing shaft!
I removed the motor today. Took the cover off and cleaned the communator and brushes. Very smooth now. problem is the plastic gear to the motor is chewed up. I gotta find a replacement for that. Before I take the motor out again. Dave
Dave, HandyAndy sent me this link a week or so ago. Window Motor parts are at the bottom. Hope it helps: http://parts.motors.ebay.com/Car-Truck-Parts/6030/?_rdc=2
I have looked at the links above, looked through a lot of magazines etc.. Anyone know of just a power window place that might have a suitable replacement even? Thanks, Dave
So I ordered one for a GMC 1500 truck. Like an 80's version... I removed the plastic gear and cut the top off of the new one. I removed the gear off of the old one and welded the old one onto the new one. Spaced it out with washers and it WORKS!!!! I guess I just needed to search and then modify.. I will take a video so you all can see. Dave
