We always referred to them as either 8 tracks or tape players back in the day. They definitely qualify for "tape player" status, the tape was wider than cassette.
Spiders love Johnny Cash. Graceland Cemetery is the one. Once the really warm days are in the 70s we would like to go there and eventually to Rosehill Cemetery (300+ acres). When I was young I remember my parents had a bunch of 8 tracks and beta tapes. Thank you everyone. You lot really know how to make me feal special. You all will always be my family. So a couple of days after I first posted on this thread my old cell phone got knocked onto the floor and it broke the hinge. The day after that some one at a bus stop bumped into me. Once again my phone felt the affects of what happens when gravity wants to introduce you to it's friend the ground. After phone met ground, my phone got to meet a new friend as well. Shoe of stranger... Funeral services for my phone will be held at midnight tonight. I have a new phone but I am having trouble getting it activated. So we will see. Chicago is fantastic for Zoe and me. We are both healthier and our cats haven't been this happy since we had our house. Surprisingly a lot of things we had a lot of difficculty with in Joplin and with Missouri we have had very little trouble with here. Like everything concerning my disability. I actually get treated like I'm a real person here. Zoe has options for schools to attend once we are more stable. And since we moved here I have been able to experience an artistic uprising within myself and my work like I have never experienced before. I do want to clarify something I had stated at an earlier date. Crime rate per capita. In Joplin proper there are only around 40,000 people whereas Chicago something like 2,000,000 I believe. So yes Chicago has more crime, but the ratio of people committing crimes to that of those not is higher in Joplin. Per capita.
It is awesome to hear about your creative juices flowing my friend, I am so happy Chicago is a good fit for you and Zoe! I think I speak for all of us when I say we were a little worried about you guys moving to a big city. I couldn't be more pleased that it worked out this well.
I tried to let this go, but the Irish in me wouldn't/couldn't. I'm not trying to win a debate here, just laying out the facts. You draw your own conclusions. In 2012, Chicago has the highest murder rate in the Alpha world cities with 19.4 murders per 100,000. This rate is more than triple New York (6.0) and more than double Los Angeles (7.5), and ahead of Mexico City, Moscow, and São Paulo. Chicago is projected to have 505 homicides for the year which would be a 16% increase from 2011 (Reported by NBC-Chicago). Joplin has had 2 homicides in 2012 to-date; one in July, one in August. Refer to http://www.joplinmo.org/Archive.aspx?AMID=50 for details. Chicago has had 368 homicides to-date; 57 in August alone; 6 more through September 5th. Check http://homicides.redeyechicago.com/ for details. Joplin has 50,000 people in 31 square miles. Chicago has 2,700,000 people in 234 square miles. You could put 7.5 Joplins within the Chicago city limits. Joplin's homicide rate is 1 in 25,000; Chicago's is 1 in 7,300. As I've stated before, my oldest son lives, works and goes to graduate school in downtown Chicago - this topic is very near and dear to my heart. Plus - I do like what I know about you X and want you all to be safe. And realistic about what you're dealing with. I only have best wishes for you and yours. Peace.
Hello X. happy to hear you are doing well in the big city. Impressive statistics by jrw. Just remember no matter how many homicides, rapes, robberies or other crimes there are, don't be a statistic! We like Graceland too. just not the one you live near. Altho we did see a few graves in the back yard.
Thanks for the post, scout. I was going to mention it myself. Chicago has, recently gone on a murder rampage!
What have I done with my life? Of all the things I've done in Chicago I've never been in a cemetary. That's actually one of the things I usually try to stay out of in those cities! I saw fishies swim in an aquarium, a coal mine, an old submarine, lots of dead Dinosaur bones, a large tower now owned by China I believe, a field called Wrigly, JC Whitney before they moved to Peru, Ill, even saw people at the sea shore collecting sea shells. Saw statues with pigeons sitting on them, trains running on a second floor platform so they wouldn't get run over by cars, and many cars on Lake Shore Drive driving. But narry a cemetary.
Well, now that you've gotten the tourist stuff out of the way, you're ready to see the really cool stuff! Kayak tours on the Chicago river, Chinatown, Printer's Row. Hit some of the bars in Printer's Row and then off to the cemeteries!
I've been by a JC Whitney bldg on the interstate west out of Chicago.....didn't think that was as far as Peru though?
I've hit a few bars around Chicago and other cities. Ending up in a cemetary did cross my mind. I could be wrong about the JC Whitney store now on the frontage road rt 6 along I80 being between La Salle and Ottawa----Illinois not Canada or Lima, Peru! It's been awhile. I first went to their original warehouse store in Chicago. One side of the building said Wharshouski. (Spelled completely wrong) There were two separate catalogs. One for each store, which was the same place. KInda like Sears and Sawbucks and MonkeyWards? Since we are off topic isn't the Sears Tower now owned by a Chinese co.?
