When I install a new tank, I always give it about 3 coats of spray on rubber stone guard first. For a tank I use the black tar stuff, and let it cure well. I do top and bottom. Then anything that collects on top of the tank can't hurt the mettal, and the stuff on the bottom protects from stones and things. Keeps a tank looking great for years! Also, easy to touch up as need be down the road. Just mask off around the holes for the sending unit and vent tubes, so you don't end up with any in the tank. Also, if your old straps are not up to par, check with Canadian Tire. Their gas tank supplier has straps that are not listed in the store computer system. I had to wait over night for a new pair for the 79 Thunderbird, and at $35 a pair, they were certainly cheap enough.

Since the tank is brand new, why not get it powdercoated . The tank I had made for my wagon is powdered which makes it look great and is safe from corrosion. just a thought since this is a new tank.

    Looks good.:)
Did you use a BFH to make that that tank fit?
Owning a GTO I may be slightly biased but I think all post 1965 Pontiac 400's should be Pontiac metallic blue with chrome valve covers and air cleaner lid.:D
