Hello out there in wagonland! I am a newly registered member from New Mexico. My name is Carl, and I have a thing for wagons. My daily driver is an '86 AMC Eagle wagon. I drive it every day to work, a 35 mile one way drive. I live in the mountains and the four wheel drive is very handy for both the snow in the winter, and the mud bog that masquerades as a road in the spring and summer. Erma (the Eagle) just rolled 107k the other day. She needs a few things, but nothing major. If you are familiar with AMC products, you know what I mean. I also have a 1957 DeSoto Firesweep Shopper (6passenger) wagon. I hope to get started on it next spring. My first car memories are of wagons. My parents had a gold Chevy II wagon with a red interior that they sold before I was two, but I can still remember it. They also had a little blue Opel Kadett wagon, that mets it's maker when it tried to defy the laws of Physics, and occupy space that was already inhabited by an enormous yellow Buick Electra 225 travelling at a high rate of speed. (I'm still amazed we survived with just a few bruises. No seat belts or airbags back then) My grandmother had a huge early 60's Biscayne wagon, seafoam green. My folk's first new car was a 1971 Plymouth Suburban wagon, dark green, wood panelling. It also had a 383/four barrel under the hood as well as hidden headlamps. I would love to find another similar car someday. If anybody knows of one let me know. I am an artist, and all of my paintings consist of old cars. I also enjoy my four dogs, Waldo, Baby Elmo, Rindy, and Mike. Well I guess that's about all for now. I have to get off the computer and get some things done. I am looking forward to being on these forums and getting to know people here a bit better. Have the Best Day CaptCarl http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r8/abqcarl/img_0442.jpg[/IMG Erma on the trail, I do four wheel her from time to time
That AMC looks great! I almost moved to NM from Mexico, but I could have lost my Canadian citizenship, so here I am back home. I wanna see that 'Shopper' project. They are rarer than hens' teeth. You gotta get me drooling.
. Nice Eagle wagon. I have looked at one myself, but as these are very rare here in Holland, I was a bit afraid it would be difficult with parts and maintenance. Needless to say that we would like to see some pictures of that Desoto.
Thanks for the welcome kiddies! svoman: Yes I know who you are over there on Eaglenest. My name over there is abqcarl. I was going to use it here as well, but I moved out of Albuquerque over a year ago. I want to change my name over there eventually too. How did you fix the link? I tried posting the photo the same way we do on Eaglenest, using Photobucket, but it didn't work. tbirdsps: Yeah they did a pretty good job. After all I only wound up in jail once When the Eagles first came out, Dad was looking for a new car. I did everything I could to talk him into an Eagle wagon. His response was the same that many people had by that time. "I'm NOT buying any damned AMC!!" We wound up with a Chrysler Cordoba. At least it had a 360 in it. I will post pics of Virgil E as soon as I fiugure out how to post the actual pictures rather than just links to them. Have a great day everyone, CaptCarl
