Picked up my Cappy out of storage yesterday! uh....there's a closed, straight, flat airport road on the way to my friend's garage. I now know that my Cappy will do 145 MPH.
By who's speedo?? '67 BB Impala - 5200 rpm with 29 inch tall tires and 3:08 gear = 150 + MPH Speedo quit at the 0 peg!
Where is this road? If I can ever get too it I want to try that out in what vehicle I own at the time.
2 witnesses on board. Cappy speedo is digital and has been opened up at the PCM so there is no end to it. Is the speedo 100% accurate? Probably not. But it is at lower speeds so who knows? There was a little more left.
I was in the back middle seat with the strippers having way toooo much fun Officer, I did'nt see a thing
Frankly, I'm not much of a top end guy. But, when I first got this car with the LT1 I was rather amazed at the seemingly endless power without even breathing hard. I remember passing a car and looking down at the speedo and it was over a hundred. These things ride so well that you don't feel the speed. Then...when I put the new engine in...it was even more awesome. I kicked it down one day and left it there a little and it hit 130 MPH. On the way to pick it up from storage I had 2 dyed in the wool car guys with me and we were discussing my amazement at the LT1's ability to, seemingly, keep going. We discussed what things prevented a car from just going forever...the things that would hold it back, etc. Well....one thing led to another. We are, after all, car guys! So, we pulled onto the closed road mentioned above and the rest is history. It did JUST begin to hesitate at 142, not much but you could feel it. If left down it would have done over the 145 but we were reaching a part of the road that had a few waves in it and I didn't want the car raising and getting air borne with air under it so it was shut down at 145.
