Hello! This is way cool! My earliest memories of a car was my Pop's 60 Mercury (might have been a 59... I was a little guy). He followed with a 64 or 65 Impala... I learned to Drive in a '72 Colony Park Wagon. I've been smitten ever since. Over the years I have owned an 86 240 Volvo Wagon, a 92 Accord Wagon (Great Car, my daughter drives it to this day) a 92 VW Passat (Bought with 108k- it died @ 375K). The current ride is a little 90 VW Fox Wagon. Somebody was mean & neglectful to her... I'm nursing her back to health. So Far: Rewelded the Driver's Floor Pans to the Frame Patched the holes in the driver's floorboards Rebuilt the Front Disc Brakes Rebuilt the Rear Drum Brakes Replaced the rear steel Brake Lines Replaced Front & Rear Fuel Pumps Replaced almost all of the Vacum Lines New Distributer New Cap, Rotor, Plug Wires & Plugs New Fuel & Air Filter New Front & Rear Strut Assemblies Replaced Timing Belt & Water Pump New Radiator New Belts New Stereo Next, New Tires (Weird Wear pattern from bad struts) New Hoses Replace whatever (probably 20+ year old gear oil) is in the tranny with VW Synthetic New Paint/ Undercoating Then... We will be ready to go a couple of hundred thousand miles Thanks for listening!!
Welcome to the madness Mr Knight of the Templar! Post up some of that little Fox when you get some time.
Welcome Knight! Sounds like you Fox wagon is coming along nicely. Those 1.8 engines were bullet proof as all get out and run like a clock.
to swf knight. Sounds like you have alot of experience with wagons and you'll have a brand new one by the time your done with the fox. Hope you enjoy the forum.
to the wagon train, knight. Thanks for the pix...I love thos little Fox V dubs! Like to have one myself but I can never find one. Sounds like you are doing a complete job on bringing that wagon back to its tough original shape....good on ya! Glad you found us....hope you stick around and show us more and join in our discussions. You will find that we are like a family here.
Those are the cutest little wagons! Were those made in Brazil? Around here, they tended to rust away very quickly.
Survivor Yup, made in Brazil. Somebody had done some searious undercoating. Foxy survived 21 years in Pittsburg. The only Major rust was on the driver's floor pans & the back brake lines. I was not really looking to buy her- but she showed up on an e-bay auction & I figured, "What the Heck". I got her for $750.00... Either I, my buddy with a tig welder, or my mechanic have done a ton of work to her... she is darned near brand new... I still have less than $3000. in her. VW's are a beautiful thing
The 1.8 Yes! They are tougher than nails. A very simple & rugged design. I'm still tinkering with mine- she is ornery as heck when she is cold. 82HP- I'm not winning any drag races. I've been told that their is a flow restricter 'doughnut" in the exhaust. I will probably remove that when I have to replace a muffler or the cat-just to give it a scootch more "umph".
Hey theres a web site vw vor text that can give ya lots of mods ,ideas to get more zip out the little fox , that site helped me out big time with my 83 rabbit
