So my wife Misty invited everyone to our house for Thanksgiving this year. I've been informed the house cleaning is to start tonight and I have bathroom clean-up duty....yippee.

In the spirit of the season and to get ready for all our wacky Texas family I've played our official family holiday song this morning....to begin preparing myself...

    Happy Holidays Ya'll!

I always though it was just me that got stuck cleaning the bathroom .... now I understand, it MUST be my Texas (Waco) heritage! LOL

Oh, Rev, Country's the best kinda music to listen to. Where I come from, they only listen to two kinds of music, Country and Western.

I actually don't consider Robert Earl Keen to be "real country".... to me it's just good "Texas" music. I'm not a really big country fan myself. We've got a local radio station here in Austin, KGSR, and they will jump from Robert Earl Keen to The Talking Heads then to REM... it's great.

I actually bought Sirius and found myself turning it off to listen to KGSR. It's such a weird mix. But then again Austin is a weird town....man I love it here! Hahahahaha!

Whenever I travel I miss KGSR, seems most stations are so "specific" in what they play, either heavy rock, teenage girl pop music, hip-hop (which I can't stand) , yee-haw country...which I'm also not a big fan of, or so soft rock that my parents would not even listen, and so on.

It's always so nice when I get just south of Waco and can pick up KGSR again... Haha!

Agreed. Real Country is Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, etc.

I've gone off the Canadian Radio diet. They can't make up their minds!

Locally, we have this online and local station of 1960's/70's music which shoves in some Fusion Jazz:

The XHAW franchise on this list has neat music from 2:00 PM to 5:00 AM and from 10:00AM to 12:00 noon. The rest of the time is local and state news from North East music - usually classical Mexican romantic music or Mariachi music. Mexican 'country' music doesn't cut it with us.

I feel your pain, Normie. I was loyal to four stations, AM 1550, a real oldies station, which is starting to lose its way. AM 900, a classic-country station which has reformatted and gotten rid of their 50's stuff and brought in 90's and 00's, I'm none to satisfied with that change, AM 920, also classic-country, I usually put it on when I have company over, as I expect old and new from them. They also play some great vintage commercials, often for Pabst Blue Ribbon, or to buy a new '65 Rambler or Olds 442. Last, I listen to FM 95.3, which is a country station, except when I listen at 5-6. It's the 'Barn Show' with Uncle Bill and they play Polkas. Everything keeps reformatting and I find myself listening to less and less radio and loading more and more onto my iPod.

:clap:I grew up listening to country music. As I got older it was country and rock-n-roll. Then back to old time country music.-----------But, alas.! I wrote that? Even here in the boonies of country music land progress (?) has reared it's nasty head. The country station we've enjoyed for 17 years added power and added more small stations to it's listening audience. Not a bad thing! Then they went and done did the unimaginable....eliminated their country music format and went to modern CRAP. That may not be their new call letters, but us good ole country music folks are calling it that! This has been happening to many good country stations for years. WMAQ Chicago bit the dust long ago! I'm almost sure Obummer has something to do with it! At least that's my way of thunkin! Hee Haw!:rofl2: Be thankful we still have radio and TV, even though it is being limitied more and more to what we are allowed to hear! Also be thankful today for those Pilgrims and Indians for taking time out of killin each other to have the first Thanksgiving feast. HAPPY THANKSGIVING !
