Please....don't put words in my mouth or tell me what I am saying. Cars are built with government mandates and that's all I am saying.
Yes they are built to government mandates, always have been, and they are now more powerful then ever, get better mileage than ever and are safer then ever. Your prediction of doom and gloom over the evil government ruining all the automotive fun hasnt played out. Good day.
I have not portrayed any doom and gloom. Your words not mine. You have turned this "discussion" into something that it never was meant to be and something that my words have not instigated. I find your slanted attack on my words to be argumentative and misplaced. So, I will now refrain from any more fruitless dialog with you and allow you to post more pix and continue to accuse me of being political at your leisure. Enjoy.
I commented on your political comment, suggested it wasnt correct, posted why it wasnt correct, suggested we stick to discussing station wagons and not politics. I will continue to post station wagon subject matter. Good day.
In my line of work I get to meet engineers and other technicians from around the world. Last year we had a young German factory rep/tech spend the week with us to assist the overhauling of one of his company's machines. In conversation, I asked him what kind of cars were popular in Germany and what reputation the more popular German brands had with younger German drivers. He replied that Mercedes were viewed as "old people's cars"... ...that Audis were generally respected but looked at as merely pricier VWs... ...and that BMW owners are "pr!cks" (his exact words). After a good laugh, I asked him what he and his friends regarded as a "cool" car to tear up the Autobahn. He replied "an American Cadillac CTS".
The Cadillac CTS-V wagon is all well and good, goes like stink, has more creature comforts than you would think possible, but it just doesn't excite me. Having a comfortable, fast touring wagon is ideal but I don't need a monster. I disagree with the end result of the CTS' wagon stylists - to me it's just not pleasing to the eye. I've said it here before - that 'D' pillar is horrendous. If I were able to design it my way, I would have stretched out the roof line on a straight plane (or even given it a slight kick-up at the back seat area) instead of slanting it downward like the Magnum (copy...) If I had $70k to invest in a wagon, this wouldn't be it. I'll bet most of you can think where I'd go with my money......
Hey freind how are ya, just wanted to touch base and see if u still got my 96 wagon. And see what u have done with it lately. Barry
chop, the fox was stating more fact than opinion. the CAFE has always gone up...your right. and as of right now, the muscle herd is small but undoubtedly more powerful. but the gov has now changed the game. life was good. Pontiac had a V8 coupe (GTO) and a phenomenal V8 sedan (the G8). and was in the process of bringing a V8 Wagon and El Camino. however the Gov replaced Rick Wagoner with Fritz Henderson http://www.autoweek.com/article/20090329/carnews/903309997 the first thing fritz did was kill Pontiac and Hummer. the second thing he did was kill all new V8 projects. this has left the trucks with 10 year old engine designs and no replacement for the Cadillac Northstar. under the old CAFE you had to avg a certain mpg across you range. so for every aveo or cobalt or malibu you offered that got 25-30 mpg, you could offer a camaro or corvette or say full size v8 rwd car (what was suppose to be the next Impala SS). under the new system not only are SUV's lumped in with the cars but so are the trucks...all the way up to and including 1 tons. so for chevy to offer the Camaro, they HAVE TO offer the Volt AND Sonic AND Spark. under the new system the % of 30-40 mpg vehicles is no longer determined by what you offer but what you actually sell. in other words, now that the volt is tanking (you know..the erev that has LI-ION batteries that go boom) because no one wants a heavy 4 seat underpowered car that looks like a weird version of the cruise. (for $40,000 -$7000 gov sub. and you have a $33,000 car that is less useful than the cruise) after 2016 you may kiss the Camaro goodbye too! these are all easily verified facts....and pardon me.. but as a car guy, i read these with a bit of doom and gloom. i can't see what good can come of this down the road.
i,m wishing for a cts-v drivetrain to come available used at a price i can afford,. then it,s going in a 95 chevy caprice wagon,. then not only will it be effortless fun,. but it;ll always be "cool" Nick
Believe it or not, and sorry to just cut in like this, but for the most part I really don't care what they do to new cars. I mostly care about the old ones that are becoming less and less on the road. When I see a car I rode in as a child on display at a car show more than I do on the road... Well...
