I'll second this... While it is POSSIBLE for it to just fire right up with some new gas, a find like this should really have some attention before you try to crank it. Put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the spark plug holes for a couple days, do an oil change, maybe pull the distributor and pump the oil through the block with a drill. A 3/4 inch socket on the crank pulley bolt and try to turn it by hand before you hit the starter. Fresh gas from a can instead of the line, priming the carb if possible. (Cheap electric fuel pump will fill the bowls..) I'd say offer it up 'as is' if you just want it to go to a good home. If you are serious about making as much money as you can off it, it will take some work but a running/driving machine will definitely bring more. On the other hand if you rush things and break something, it's going to be worth less than if you had just sold it as a barn find.
Bd, you definitely might have something there and if you spend a weekend or maybe two on it, I'll bet you could double what you could sell it for. Follow the mechanical advisories from everybody and get some soap, water, wax, armorall and some elbow grease. Believe me, it'll be worth it. Also, obviously, get some air in all the tires and clean her up. I'll bet you'll be amazed at what you'll find under all that dirt and grime. It very well may look like it's a true 72000 mile survivor. Get to work--you'll have fun and maybe won't even want to sell it after you're done. Good luck. PS-Don't forget the interior. Nice vacuum and some shampoo and you'll be good to go.
thanks alot everyone for the help!!!! with work and farm I plan to have it in the shop this weekend. when i wash it i will post pics .
Out of the barn!!!!!!! I got it out and to my shop. she stoped along the way for a quick rinse. But she is back inside but this time on concreate and next to the tool box. Already on jack stands!!!!!
Oops, sorry. It took my computer several tries of re-loading the page to get them to show up for some reason. I bet it's happy to be out again after such a long sleep.
this is the most important part you'l ever read !!!! do FREEKIN NOT just throw a battery at it and try to start it!!!!!! if the motor is even SEMI frozen...you will do serious damage trying to turn it over...without some preventive measures!!!!!!
I'm not going to rush it. Went this morning and got mystery oil, plugs plug wires, oil, oil filter, battery, and some more advice.
Most of the advice came from you guys, and thanks to everyone!! keep in mind it is for sale if you know anyone.
I read this thread and gee!! Do i envy you?! The Pontiac looks sharp, and i am sure it will be even better looking when it got some attention! Please share some additional pics here, i for one is really interested of the progress.. Btw; this is a model of pontiac i have never seen live here in sweden, and that makes me think its a really odd bird..
Nice big Poncho. Looks mostly good, I sure hope it's able to be saved and brought back. That wood grain has a very nice patten on the driver's side, too bad it's got those rough spots over the rear wheel and near the front bumper, I love the distinct knotty look of the rear flanks.
