I saw, noticed at least, my first one over the weekend. While I'm no fan of Cadillac's current origami styling the long roof mitigates lots of that. 556 horsepower with a real gearbox mitigates a bunch more. And kudos to Cadillac for selling it as a WAGON, not an SUV, crossover or whatever other hyperbole is being used to label long roof cars these days. $50k-ish for a 2012 but luxury car depreciation is my friend so maybe later......
My dream car for SURE!!!! They just flat GO! And they have every accoutrement know to man inside and under. But...the wagon was priced at around $70K IIRC.
Not only are they making a wagon, they have the guts to offer a 6 spd manual in it. My congratulations to Caddy and anyone that can afford it!
Seems selling it as a 'wagon' is okay because 'estates' (European for station wagon) have remained popular in, of all places, Europe. and Cadillac hope to sell a bunch over there. I'm glad Cadillac got the ball rolling, attempting to take back it's place as the standard of the world and have designed and built cars that are competing at that high level. Love 'em or hate 'em, they are a good evolution, the wagon being the top of the food chain, in my opinion. Maybe they will take the lead in our hemisphere and make 'station wagons' cool again. It's a great car, (no rear facing seat option though.)
I LOVE the CTS-V Wagon. Its hard to overstate how cool this car is. The drivetrain is a MONSTER. The power is right there, all the time, just a fraction of a ankle flex away. If you are doing 60mph down the freeway and drop a gear or two and stomp on it, you had best have the traction control on cuz its easy to end up perpendicular to traffic with the rear tires smoking heavily. It handles as well as cars costing twice its price, its not an all out sports car, but its a damn fine handling luxury power/sports cruiser. Hammered around Laguna Seca for a day, and it was VERY entertaining. I actually like the Sedan and Wagon better than the coupe as the latter is a little short coupled and its hard to put all the power down. The wagon does have a little more rear end noise than the Sedan (just a function of the large open area directly above the diff), but its barely noticeable. The 6 speed trans is a peach. It just takes a couple of fingers to snick through the gears. All in all its all of the car of an M5 or AMG Merc in its same class at half the price. Caddy hit it out o the park with this one.
I couldn't agree with you more, chop. Unfortunately, GM has DISBANDED the performance team that designed & built this car as well as the Cobalt SS, etc. Yup. Another great decision from GM. My bet is the G in GM, as in government, may have had a say in this decision. Since the CTS-V is built to order you will likely still be able to get one in the future. But, I wonder about on-going improvements? All I know for sure is.....I would do most anything to own one of these.
The simple matter is, if the CTS-V does well in sales, it will be available and will be developed... whatever one thinks about the "government involvement" with GM. Good sales are good business. No one, the evil federal government, is going to get in the way of a good selling, profitable model.
Well....the price on these cars is way low compared to any other car that can perform like it does. And with all the accoutrements. But, the sales numbers are pretty low. That surprises me. A lot. I'm not saying that this car will die...that would be silly stupid to stop building this most incredible car. But, I STILL wonder about the performance improvements in the future. Let's face it...if the performance team still existed the CTS-V would get even more awesome as the years went by. The problem is, good sales or not, the G hates gas guzzling performance cars and is trying to get the older ones off the road. So...what do you think their attitude is with a brand new performance rig like this Caddy?
sigh... right now we have the most powerful cars in history right off the show room floor. They get great mileage. Stop with the "sky is falling" doom and gloom. CAFE standards rise, its what they do. It hasnt hurt "us" (car enthusiasts).
no it hasnt. You can go to yer Chevy dealer and buy a 556hp station wagon. Tell me when else in history you could have done that? Look, I'm done with the doom and gloom "its the government maaaaaaaaaan!!!" discussion. Find someone else to engage with that. I'm here to talk about a bitchin 556hp off the showroom floor station wagon. If you'd like to talk politics i suggest a political discussion forum.
I began my post by agreeing with you and by posting an observation about the GM performance team. You seem to think I was/am arguing with you. Which I am not. In answer to your question...you could never get a car like the CTS-V in the past. Especially back in the 70's and 80's when the car companies were struggling with the G's standards.
