One of the things that has most bothered me about my '81 Parisienne Sedan was the grungy look of my vinyl roof. It's several shades darker than the rest of the car and it's obvious that it's just due to it being dingy and dirty. I've cleaned it countless times while washing the car. I've used various car wash products, several vinyl cleaners, even toothpaste, and polishing compound. None of it ever had any effect at all and the vinyl roof remained pretty crappy looking.

I realize that vinyl roof wasn't a common option for wagons but I found a product at WalMart yesterday and picked it up on a whim and figured that it was good enough to warrant sharing. I just happened to be wandering back in the automotive aisle and spotted it in the RV section purely by chance.

If you've got vinyl to clean, this stuff is well worth the investment.

The bottle suggested mixing it with water but said that it could be used full strength on stubborn stains. I dipped an old toothbrush into the stuff and started scrubbing away at a small part of the roof as a test. The results were instantaneous. I quickly got a larger brush and started to work on the rest of the roof.

Here's a shot of it just past the half way mark. I ultimately finished the whole roof and wound up using just over a cup of the stuff.

:rofl2:Now I'm certain that it's time for us all to chip in and get 'Fox that new monitor he's been needing.

I never thought of using Fast Orange. I've always got a couple of containers of it kicking around as Partsource puts it on sale all the time.

The top 3rd of my door panels are vinyl but a much smoother vinyl than the roof. They were in great shape, but incredibly dirty. I worked at those with polishing compound and they came back almost like new.

The Walmart page describes it as "safe for all fabrics". Based on your use of it, do you think it would be a good product for cleaning vehicle interiors? The previous owner of my wagon was a bee keeper, and there is or was evidence of that on the seats, carpets, and just about every nook, cranny, and crease. I'm still trying to get bees wax out of it.

Now that stuff sounds great and using it on the vinyl interior bits and door panels would be smart. Off to the store as the interior code 5A (titanium) color is a little dingy in the 92 Tbird not to mention the 92 Ranger too. Soap and water just doesn't do the trick.

I wouldnt hesitate to use it on any vinyl or plastic. The stuff foams up nicely and I got it all over my hands while scrubbing the roof. It had the same consistency as dish soap and it didn't feel like I should be wearing protective gear like some cleansers. I was amazed at how well it worked for how gentle a cleaner it seemed during use.

No, but only because I had already cleaned my leather with Releasall and a leather cleaner/conditioner.

Don't have a vinyl roof but one thing I've used that worked miracles on a trashy interior was Purple Power. I mixed it pretty strong, had to use rubber gloves to keep from burning my hands and my hands are pretty tough as it is. This was a Corsica (in great shape at the time) I gave my ex in a settlement and got it back trashed and with a blown transaxle 2 years later. There was coffee tossed up onto the headliner. Seats were stained with a mix of coffee, pop, candy, and kid puke. Any area that could hold a cup had leaked drink hardened to about 1/4 inch deep. Back floors were the same, with mud in the hardened mix. No surface was spared, not even the rear deck. Closing the doors would make you sick. After an afternoon of Purple Power, it looked like new and smelled pretty good too. I did have to use Armor All on the dash and similar surfaces because scrubbing with Purple Power wanted to dry them out. After cleaning and fixing all that was wrong with it, I sold it to a friend of the family. I barely broke even but at least he was really happy with it.

I'm glad it worked for you but I don't think I would go as harsh as with Purple power on a interiour ( I use that stuff to strip paint off parts but stopped because of the dipping your hands in acid feel:yup:). As you mentioned.."burning your hands"/"drying out..."....whats it realy doing to a interiour in the long run if your planning on keeping he car? If it's that bad, and I've been there with beaters, Simple Green would be my choise.

BTW, :Welcome:...I really dig the snow plow wagon:tiphat:

I've started using floor cleaner on stuff.
The kind for kitchen floors. It really cuts the grime easily also.

Yeah, I keep dish soap in the garage and use it in a bucket of water for cleaning interior plastics. Nuthin' better.

I discovered this year that a 30/70 mixture of Tide and water with a bit of vinegar as a defoaming agent works well for cleaning carpet.
