Hello from the great state on North Carolina! My name's Pete. My wagon is a '79 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. It's basically bone stock at this point, but I have some parts on the way from Summit so that I can start to remedy that. My parents had a series of wagons when I was growing up (3 Oldsmobiles and a Ford) and, while I thought they were horribly uncool as a kid, I realized their potential late in my highschool years. I told myself then that if one presented itself to me I would snatch it up. My green behemoth turned up a couple years ago in a friends driveway. He had acquired it rather randomly during a real estate deal, and I was able to get it from him for next to nothing. It's been used very little due to some needed work, and the fact that I have other vehicles for daily use. (A 94 Jeep Wrangler, and a 04 Crown Vic with all the lights and sirens plus the wife's 03 Mazda 3 that she won't let me "modify") However, I have a tranny, torque converter, and new carb on the way, so she should be roaming the streets again very soon. I have several furry kids, and they will soon be joined by a (hopefully) much less furry little girl. I hope to be able to share with my daughter some of the wonderful things I remember so fondly from growing up riding in the back of a wagon. I look forward to chatting with you, and picking your collective brain. -Pete
Welcome Pete from Floriduhh! Glad you decided wagons are cool. Get that Summit catalog out and order some more stuff to make that big wagon roll down the highways and biways.
Several furry kids??? to the Forum Pete, glad you found us. Hope to see you around the forum...was there pictures?
to the wagon train, Pete. Nice intro! Post up some pix of your wagon if you will and tell us what mods you are getting from Summit.
from Pittsburgh Pa.....you know i have an aunt that lives in NC....... btw are you ready for Irene ? (the hurricane)
Welcome aboard - I lived in NC for a couple of years - Greenville to be exact. I really miss the weather there!
Thanks for the warm welcome! Boy... I was rereading my post, and caught some slips in my info... The jeep is a '93 and the Mazda is an '04. Good thing somebody wasn't ready to put a rattlesnake in my bed if I got it wrong... I'll work on getting some decent pics to post, if the weather cooperates... I probably won't get much of the storm where I'm at. I95 is projected to be the boundary area for the heavy effects of Irene, and I'm just to the west of the freeway. It probably won't even be as bad as a severe thunderstorm here, but you never really know til it gets here. Mods to my wagon at this point will be primarily to ger running reliably again. Right after I got her I was able to drive her up to Raleigh for a concert (it's a GREAT tailgating vehicle) but shortly after that started having problems with the carb and transmission. The Q-jet that's on it is from the Carter administration and you can't really do much with it in the way of tuning, plus the fuel floats in it are shot. I should be receiving it's replacement today. I'm sticking with a Q-jet, but I needed something I could work with. I also bought a Summit rebuilt BOP TH-350 to replace the 31 year old unit currently sitting under there. The old one was leaking transmission fluid like a seive, and I figured that it makes more sense to just swap it out. A Hughes Performance Street Rod torque converter is going in as well. Future projects include headers running to a larger exhaust, and body work to repair some rusted areas. We'll see what happens from there... Crazy Beaver... LOL You must be crazy to leave NC for the chillier climes of Canada. I'm not surprised you miss the weather.
Welcome to the forum. Not sure there are any headers for the olds engine in a Custom Cruiser. Maybe some shorties will work. Duals will require a modified transmission crossmember.
photo posting? I know I saw a thread on this, but I stumbled across it before I registered as a user. I went to look for it, and couldn't find it. I figured out the "manage attachments" box, but my pics are too large. What's the best way for me to resize them? I'd really love to share them with all you viewers in Station Wagon Land... Oh, and Stickman... I have to thank you! You unknowingly brought me into the fold. We apparently have some similar tastes, and I found this forum after doing an image search for flat black station wagons... I'm seriously considering heading down that path with mine, and wanted to get a better idea what she would look like.
