Hey everyone! I got my very first station wagon yesterday, its a 1977 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. It has the Rocket 350 and auto trans. Its got power windows, locks, hatch and front split bench. But no radio! Now here is the back story: The car was ordered in December of 76, then built in Jan. of 77 and delivered and sold in Feb. 77. It had 20 miles on it when it was brought home. From what my Grandpa told me was the original owners bought it to haul their dogs. Thats it, so it saw very limited road time. Then in the early 90s when my Grandpa got the car it had about 12K on the clock and was 100% factory at the time. Then he used and drove it and he racked the milage up to 59K. Which is where it sits today. But I had been after this car for a few years, dropping hints here and there. He always told me I didn't need that old car. But it continued just to sit. Then he got the idea to donate it to a Junk for Jesus type program. Then it kept sitting. I heard that they didn't even want it! Then he was just going to scrap it. But my Grandma convinced him to see if I wanted it. And of course I did. So I was able to finally bring it home. Now on to the pictures!
that was gonna end up J4J !????? well thank Hayzuz you got it man...it looks pretty freekin clean dude...is that a radio delete car?????....do NOT cut up that dash!!! congrats on gettin it.... oh...and to our garage
to the wagon train, 77V. WOW...that is one NICE wagon...I kid you not. I like those 77's a lot. Funny thing is....I don't care for the 77 Olds sedans but I love the wagons. That is a cherry car. I like that color combo. I don't blame you for wanting it. I want it, too! Glad you found us and showed us that beauty!
77, what a cool car and only 59,000 miles on it?!! You owe your granddad big time!! The Rev is right. It appears to be a radio delete car which are extremely rare; don't cut into that dash even for a period correct radio. If you feel you must have tunes, get the plate out of a parts car that had a factory radio, so as not to destroy the irreplaceable one that's in there. Looking at the car, it appears to have been an extremely basic one in that it has no radio, hubcaps instead of full wheel covers and no luggage rack. I doubt a dealer would've ordered one with such minimal equipment for his stock. I'd bet anything it was ordered for that specific customer. Best of luck with it. Really cool car.
Thanks for the welcome guys! As for the tunes, it will probably stay a radio delete. Now I know how rare that option is! This car was a specific order. I have the bill of sale and a few other goodies, but sadly no window sticker. It has power windows, power locks and power split front bench. It also has the button in the glove box for the hatch release. It also has factory air conditioning. Other than that no other options. But according to my Dad and my Grandpa the original owner said "I didn't want a radio in it so I got it that way" Here are a couple more pictures.
77. Yep, that wagon was worth waiting for. Sad how vehicles like this can end up scrapped. It looks nicer than many late models on the road. And half the mileage of many cookie cutters. Drive it and enjoy it.
Have you been to Phoenix with that wagon? There was one very similar to it at the Chilly Bombers Cruise night about a month ago.
No it wasn't, its been off the road of a few years. But once I get it running back to 100% I'll be making my rounds to the different car shows. Thanks again for the welcome guys!
That looks mint! Can't believe anyone would consider donating or junking that; I'm glad cooler heads prevailed. I think I need to take a trip to AZ; here in New England, most of the cars have holes in the floors and people still want $4K for 'em.
