I am having a problem with the a/c in my 1991 caprice wagon. It blows cool air. It goes through all the settings and on max it does not blow very hard. Also the temp guage goes up to over half way when the a/c is on. What could that be. I am new with the wagon thing. Also has a stumble when you stop and go. I have changed the plugs and fuel filter. What to do with the a/c and stumble.

Stopped up condenser (outside) might be the cause of the heating problem. Check for debris in the fins, as well as radiator fins. Blower switch might be bad, can you hear the blower motor change as you go from low to hight?

If the volume of air is low, check the duct work under the dash. Another possibility is that the squirrel cage blower has leaves in the wheel and is not pushing enough air, or the blower motor bearings are about to go. It would probably pop a fuse if the motor were bad.

    Stumble..

how long did the car sit? it sounds like a fuel delivery issue if it's only at a stop/start.. dirt and/or vanish likely suspect..

I think it's normal for the temp gauge to go up a bit as the engine now has to power the compressor when it's clutch kicks in. If the bearings on the clutch are starting to go bad then the engine would have to work harder, and would then heat up more than usual. But I think you'd hear some whining from the compressor as well.

Also, I'm not sure what fan setup you have, but if there's an electric one it should be going on when you turn the AC on.
