Okay fellas. If you ever wanted or needed 50's - 60's wagon for cheap cheap cheap, now is the time. York Pennsylvania. Got this info from another forum I am on:

They are crushing cars a this junkyard very quickly.
Default 1500 Cars Going to be crushed March 2011. Buy them while you can
I know of a Junkyard in York, PA that bought a old abandoned junk yard about 6 years ago and now township wants the old junkyard gone and cleaned up. All these cars/trucks will be crushed starting the 1st week of March. I walked the yard myself twice. Most of the cars are from mid 1940's thru 1979. From what I have seen the cars are complete. All makes and models are in the junkyard. He built a garage and has 1 or 2 guys working there disasembling cars and trucks what ever you want. They have the heavy equipment there to pick up and put the cars/trucks you want on your trailer or rollback. I talked to him a few weeks ago and he is now trying to sell the cars just as scrap weight to try and save as many as he can. The prices were pretty high back a few years ago but now time has run out on him.

The name of the junk yard is Baugmans Auto Parts. Phone# is (717) 846-3944 Mon-Sat. I imagine it will take about 2 months to crush everything once the crushing starts. He will save any cars you want if you come and spray paint your initials on them and put down payment on cars you want as he has told me. I plan on getting a few but can't save them all. Hope alot of people come to the rescue of these old cars. You can google map the address and look at the cars thru sattelite imagery and see them in the woods.

Here are pictures of some of the cars. MANY MANY WAGONS!!

http://forum.love-fords.org/showthread.php?804-Baughman-s-Auto-Parts-York-PA (Pics are only of Fords, but this yard is of all makes and models.)

Wish I was closer, but I am in Oregon.

Too bad most are beyond saving. But sure have lots of parts to donate.
It makes me sick they got that way. and to be crushed before they can be really cleaned of useful parts.
Some of them I really like the style. Saw a couple 1960 Edsel wagons.

This is the same lot with the Challengers http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12780 ...too bad most of these relics are bound for the crusher.

The same thing happened to a wonderful old junkyard in Dallas.
Hale Frey's Junkyard had cars from the '30's to the '70's. The old, irascible owner died, and the city forced it's closing.

I wish I had been more agressive, and far-sighted in saving some of my favorite cars from this yard. Man
y were quite restorable, and had some pretty great parts, despite having been at this yard for many years.

I am still sad about the '59 Electra 225 Flattop in black, 2 1962 Pontiac Tempest Lemans convertibles (1 red & 1 black, unrusted & uncrashed, fairly complete), a '64 Safari 9-seater w/air, and hundreds more. :slap: Oh, and a '56 Safari. So many rust-free bodies, and pretty dang complete cars, gone. Lots of wagons...rust-free tailgates and floors!

But they did get the word out before the crushing began, and some cars were saved. I tried to get someone from the Pontiac club interested in the LeMans', but back then, no one cared about them. I wish I had just taken them myself...could have been had for next to nothing! :banghead3:

Man wixom I followed right up to a Camero site where 600 old cars and most looked saveable that were crushed. EPA was involved and the owners son just wante dthem crushed.
A complete 67 Chev Caprice wagon. 65 chev with 409. Roadrunners chargers, cameros mustangs and many many other collectibles all crushed. Even with hundreds of car collectors at the door step offering more than the crusher was giving they would not sell, not even a part. Had some court order from the EPA. The deceased owner would roll in his grave. Son did not care, just wanted the fast money. Fool he could of made a lot more with the right seller.
It just made me sick to look at.

Its the bull crap that drives the prices up and out of reach. I'll be lucky if there are any vintage rides left when I get the funds.

One of the threads had a link to a camero site and the forum on crushing cars at a certain area where a city and EPA and the deceased owners son were to crush 600 hundred cars that were collected from the owners dealership. These were cars on trade in, or debts not paid. Or cars that were warrenty and sat and never got fixed.
RS cameros, and lots of collectible muscle cars, that were crushed instead of saved.
EPA argues these vehicles were pollutting the planet just sitting there. To me mother nature was slowly taking them back. They were no burning carbon gases that were emmitted to the air. Sometimes the arguments are misguided. Granted it needed to be cleaned up up with all the trees gowing around them.

Yeah, if the owner of a yard just wants to crush everything, and won't sell anything, that is a tragedy. Luckily, this PA yard is selling cars...some for what the market will bear. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

This is being done all over the country. I know of several yards in the Wisconsin area that went away in the last couple of years. Funny thing is some of the yards had lots of nice stuff in them. It was very hard to get the owners to sell parts off these cars. I had a buddy in one of the yards while the crusher was there and the owner still would not sell him parts off some of the cars as they were being crushed. Oh well, its his stuff to do with as he wishes. Its just plain stupid not to sell the parts and make some money on the way out. This guy had to crush because he would not get/or use the equipment to recapture freon from the A/C systems, systems that had been sitting for the last 30-50 years. Its typical Government, not a lick of common sense!! There are still a couple of yards around that have lots of nice stuff in but its hard or impossible to deal with the owners. Eventually they will go away too.
I was looking at hitting this yard in York PA. But most of the stuff was very rough and when we talked to the owner in Nov. he was not willing to do any deals on parts at that point. At that point he was going to sell it for scrap rather than "Retail" prices.
We have done this in the past, Have pulled large piles of parts ahead of the crusher many times. At that point I don't expect to be paying $40 for one Stainless side molding. $5 maybe, still alot more than the scrapman pays for it.

Yes. I have seen greed before. Some redneck wants a quick buck with the price of destroying our nation's history. all one has to do is stick up an ad or tell people or about him wanting to sell and he could easily make THOUSANDS more dollars with no extra work.

Thats a shame... I have been in one of these yards personally. About a mile from here there are about 30 acres of cars just like that in the woods... an old friend of grandpas owned the land. He perished around 2006. He did sell alot of parts, but most stuff was beyond restoration and had set in there for years. Last time I was out there was a year before her died and everything was there, but I have heard that his son has since sold most all off and crushed. :( Some notable wagons I remember were... 1971 Pontiac Grand Safari (woodgrain optioned) wagon, 1972 Ford Gran Torino Squire, several, SEVERAL 1969 and 1970 Ford Country Squires and a 1977 Country Squire. Most other cars were sedans, coupes and convertibles of the 50s, 60s and 70s.
