I think a Pinto Wagon roof and hatch would work nice. Then you only cut the bottom of the hatch and matte to the Mustang trunk lid and catch area.
The Pinto wagon glass may not fit due to it being a split side glass. But make it a panel would still be nice.

The mustang II 's look too much like a fastbask. The Pintos have that spoiler. I see roof racks, but I think thta would take away the nice mustang look.
I think the vegas had Fibreglass hathes. Didn't they? It's been a while since I worked on one of them Like 30 years ago.

I see guys advertising on Kijiji all the time looking for Vega cars for rodding. They are hard to find thanks to the rust of the front unibody frames and 1/4's But they are out there.

Lucky you for the finds. Those are rare up here in Saskatchewan. Most are hidden from sight. Big Mustang and Camero guys around here.
Not this guy. I like wagon and the ugly duckling cars. My 61 Valiant Signet, The Econoline Trucks and my 66 Plymouth furyI car.
I like the non prefered cars.

I have a rusty 62 Valiant wagon. I love the looks of them.
if I was 15 years younger I be tempted to do the 62. But it's floors are gone. There is rust on the back underside of the roof. Thou this would make a good project for someone to build a 1/4 miler.
I'm not young anymore and have enough projects vehicle and home. Trying to set up a car hauling business for early retirement. One more year and I done 30 years working in the hospitals.
With my physical issues. I like to take retirement before this body really breaks down and work on my projects.

Even while working at the hospitals here in Maintenance. I had sideline business of being contracted to clean up old abandon farms or demolition of these farms and a Bobcat services on my days off. Shut them down. Now there are lots of guys doing that, plus a divorce where I had custody and raising kids as a single slowed me down some.
I broke my back at one time and did not know about it and kept on working. Exrays of my body shows I broke more than my back.
I have a high pain threshhold. Now all these old breaks are playing havoc with me.
Knees going, back pains, Arthritis in the shoulders from lugging all those heavy objects on my shoulders.
I'm paying now, So I want to work and drive my projects before I cannot do so anymore.
Oh one of my projects is my Econoline truck. will get chopped in half and a window van and matte the window vans front half to the trucks. Make a extend cab Econoline truck. I have 3 of these trucks. So I have a spare one to do this to. The3rd is a donor truck.
