Hey there Grandwagon - The blue wagon in the background is an '87 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. It's been in the "fleet" for about a year and headed to a new owner. (I've decided to reduce the herd and gain some driveway space back).
Welcome to the forum, Steve.... Nice trio of wagons you have there. Is the Buick Special the V-6 or the alum. V-8? I've always loved the 'mini-Buick' look of those Specials. As to your '60 Commuter, I posted a 'for sale' link on it in our 'Auctions, CL...' section back when it was on the market.... http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7715&highlight='60+mercury+Commuter Good to see it went to an owner who wanted it for what it was, a real nice WAGON. BTW......the seller of the Commuter seemed to be a serious collector IIRC, and I believe I saw a couple more of his listings. What was your experience with him? Marshall
Hi Marshall -- The Buick is the 215 V-8; it's a real sweetheart of a car. I had a pretty positive experience with the seller. The car did need some work (front end was pretty shot, brakes were soft) -- but nothing unusual.
It's very rare to find an older vehicle with nothing wrong with it. Anybody looking for something like that is not dealing with reality (not saying perfect ones arn't out there - you just have probably buy them from a museum and pay through the nose.....) All in all, that Mercury was very nice. We were all drooling over it. I am really partial to the 'hardtop' wagons, but for styling, my preference goes to the '57 Buick Caballero...... Back to your Buick Special... My first car (in 1969) was a '63 Olds Cutlass with that aluminum V8. IIRC, I had the 4-barrel version, because it really seemed like it had a lot of oomph.....
Great collection of wagons. 63 Colony Park wagons have always been a favorite of mine. Yours is one of the nicest I've seen. The other wagons look great too, and hardtop wagons like your 60 have a "cool" factor thats hard to beat. Shouldn't the 63 have a third set of chrome louvers on the rear quarter, or was that just the non wagon 63 full size Mercurys?
You're right, Jim -- it should have a third chevron on the rear quarter (nice catch!). The passenger side has all three, but the driver side lost one somewhere along the way. I found a set of chevrons in an antique salvage yard in Montana; that's on the list of improvements planned for this winter. -- Steve
Well -- I (reluctantly) put the '61 Special up for sale. If interested, please contact me with any questions you have. Regards, Steve
Yup -- put some pix on the site. You can see a lot more pix at the Hemmings web site (should be posted by Saturday) or the Cars Online web site.
