Is there anything you can buy to pour into the passage after taking the EGR off?

It's probably carbon biuld up in the motor. When you put a new EGR on, it breathes better and sucks more Carbon from the passages.

I watched an interesting video here:
    http://video.answers.com/how-to-clean-egr-passages-250265972

...on cleaning EGR passages (not entirely certain it's something that THIS computer geek is capable of yet). The video illustrates the process on a Honda engine but it makes me wonder if the passages aren't the problem more so than the valve itself. Really talking out my a$$ here as it's still a little bit over my head and I haven't located a repair manual for my Roadie yet so I haven't had the opportunity to read a sufficient amount of information in order to sound intelligent.

IF that's the problem it sounds like the answer to passing these tests that are foreign to me would be to run SeaFoam through it a few days before the test. Or the stuff Handy Andy recommends.

Seafoam works great. I use the vacuum line from my power brake booster and pour it in slowly. Shut the engine off and let it set for 30 minutes and restart to run until it the exhaust clears up. It will make a lot of smoke so choose a place where no one or houses are around.

Yeah, since the emissions tests came about there are a number of products on the shelves that "guarantee" a pass. Some need to run through the engine for a few days, others need to be poured in right before the tests, etc, etc. That's probably what I'll wind up doing to get a pass. Feels a little like a workaround to me than a solution. I'm thinking that if other '94 LT1's can pass the e-test, then mine should be capable of it as well, and if it can't, there must be some underlying reason. Probably a pretty naive viewpoint coming from a guy with minimal mechanical experience but I like to believe my logic is sound.

Find this thread and follow it. You can do this.

I did follow the thread and, unfortunately, Phantom309 never really found the solution. Another poster advised that he take the car to another testing centre and he got a pass. The underlying gist of it was that going to a garage that could do testing yielded poorer results than going to a place that did only testing. Sounds a bit like a conspiracy theory but that's what worked for him. Not really a satisfying answer.

Sounds like something out of George Orwell's novel 1984! I didn't realize they had such restrictions on vehicles in Canada.

    Interesting.

I just had a look at the Drive Clean VIN lookup website. It shows that this car was tested 5 days ago. I looked at it almost two weeks ago and the seller just contacted me 4 days ago. Sounds like they thought about keeping it and changed their minds when it failed. Doesn't help me solve my problem. Guess I'm just looking for somebody to be angry at.

Yeah, I'm thinking I might do that tomorrow. I've just got to find a quiet area where I can let 'er smoke without somebody calling the Ministry of the Environment...or the Fire Department...on me. This of course make me paranoid about driving it somewhere to do it when they've already caught me once and told me that I couldn't have it on the road.:)

Nope, nowhere to put 'em. It's hindsight, but I'm starting to wish I did. Would have saved me all the hassle.
