Hello all, I'm a newbie to this forum and forums i general. I recently bought a '66 Country Squire, and I'm looking for outlets to share the joy. My wife thinks it's an embarrassment. Hmpf. It's in need of some TLC, so I'll be looking for some help and guidance, and may be able to return the favor on some other things. I'm uploading a photo of it in the dealer's parking lot. I looked at the pictures over and over before talking myself into buying it. It's loaded 428 wagon. I drove it to FL from Omaha. Anyone have any good tips on how to redo the perimeter trim? Thanks, Tom
Oh nothing so nice as yours! I just inherited it from Grandma. It has been a farm wagon most of its life, and been sitting in the barn for a few years. I haven't pulled it home yet. http://picasaweb.google.com/deanstud/MillieSWagon# You really must have a special place in your heart in order to make the investment you must have made getting that at a dealer?
Big block, power tailgate, power steering. Nice. My mom's parents had a small farm in very rural Iowa. We'd go see them at least once a year. Grandpa always had a clean, white, Galaxie 500. One of them was a '66. He and dad walked into the garage, and grandpa showed him that even with the engine cold, all he had to do was just touch the key and the 289 engine started. I think our family was in a '67 Fairlane 500 wagon at that time, 289/auto, Lime Gold. It went with us overseas and suffered the indignities of living in Japan. Streets on base were fine, but off base, they were very narrow, and driving the old Ford was like operating an earthmover. Over there, a VW Beetle was big. The wagon was gargantuan. We came back to the states in '72, and i got my license in the wagon in '74. I logged a lot of happy miles in the wagon. Mine's bigger than our old '67, but there's a lot of similarity between the two. Needless to say, I really enjoy driving the old beast. I saw it at a dealer i was visiting. He had bought it off eBay, and i think he was having some buyer's remorse, because he was more of a 7 Litre/427 Galaxie XL guy. So he offered it to me for what he had in it. I chewed on it for awhile, came up with a few extra bucks, and took the plunge. I drove it home - Omaha to Florida - in April. Now starts the process of fixing it up.
Postman brought me a couple presents today: an original roll of 1966 woodgrain material, and a factory AM/FM to replace the one that was originally installed. One pic is of the radio before its removal, the other is the one I just got. It's supposed to work. I bought the car with an AM. I've got a factory 8-track. '66 was the first year for factory 8-track. It hung under the dash. There's a panel of aftermarket gauges there now, so they may have to go. I'm not sure, because I like having the extra monitors on the engine.
to the wagon train, 66Q. Yup....there are several different ways to go on the trim. Guys that have done it different ways will chime in soon. Hey....nice wagon.
Welcome to the Forum, Tom. That's a nice CS you have there. Post up some more pics, so we can admire it more......
I haven't really taken any good beauty shots yet, but here are some snapshots and a VIN decode. The engine has a 2V on it because a previous owner, in a futile attempt to extract some MPG from the engine, changed it over. It came with a '66 4V manifold and Autolite 4100 crackerbox carb...
Thanks guys. It's getting a new windshield next week or so. BTW, I've got a full set of Ford Car Facts dealer albums, so if anybody needs specs, or has questions about content on 62-75 Fords, I can help.
