OK, so really it's day 4 total, but the second day I've driven the '58 into work. After a year or so of tinkering on odds and ends, seat belts, trips around the block, jump starts, push starts and fumigation, I finally made the trip to the DMV, got it registered/insured and am on the road legally as of Friday. OK, not uneventful, as my trip to take my eldest (4) to school on Friday left us 3 blocks shy of the destination. We walked the rest of the way and she proudly told everybody she saw "Our car broke down. Our car broke down." So I walked back got her running and was off to the DMV. Only to stall again after about 9 miles and I coasted into a local high school parking lot. Looked/smelled like it was flooding, so I pulled the carb apart, cleaned the needle valve/seat and adjusted the float for some more pressure & haven't had a problem since. She drives about like you'd thing she would. Pretty good pickup (3 spd manual), floats a bit, and feels like a tank trying to stop her. Got lots to do, but am enjoying the nice weather and just being on the road. I really look forward to driving back and forth to work.
Congratulation TeeJ. You have to be so pumped!! Glad to hear your Poncho's back on the road. How did your daughter like it?
Teej: Great looking Pontiac wagon. Glad it's up and running. A 3 speed, no less! Bet that sucker will wind out forever...........
She's used to my old cars. My other daily is my '67. She just said it looked 'dirty' inside and that we should clean it. (No carpet, so the bare metal looks 'dirty' dirty to her.) She's still strapped into her same car seat, so it feels the same to her. But she did ask why it was so much louder than mommy's car.
Wow, what a great way to finish up the year. Out tooling in the Poncho. Now I feel compelled to take a toot in mine. OK, a bunch of toots, but that's a whole different thread (gotta stay off those beans, man) What engine does the wagon have? I'm trying to convince a buddy to pick one up that is for sale in the area but he's convinced he needs a Bonnie convert (sigh). Wait till I show him this thread..
Well, those two days were good motivation... Unfortunately on the way home, my stuck carb issue resurfaced. Might need to pull the tank and make sure I'm not getting a load of sediment.. Back to the '67 today. 1967Tempest, I guess I could use it as a ski rack, but down here in FL they better be water skis.. Safari57, it's got the 370 V8 with 2bbl. Pretty standard for the '58 line. What's the wagon up there for sale? And if he's looking for a '58 Bonneville convertible, he must have some deep pockets. I think I know where there is one for about $25K, but don't quote me on that. I can get some more definite info if you want.
this bums me out. id love to have a pre emmissions car as a DD. if my wife and i had been able to stay in tallahassee it may have been a possibility. but here in the salt belt....in the heart of the Keystone State...where they salt the roads when its sunny! its just not gonna happen! but alas i can fantasize! mmm i could see it now. me tooling a long in a 1952 chevy 3100 or a ford f1. thats why i envy you folks whom have classic DD's ...like tedy i love that truck!
Your buddy ever make a decision? I'd love to see what else is out there for sale if he's not buying it. And if he's still looking for the Bonnie vert I can see about getting info on that one in NY (?) but it ain't cheap.
