Hey everyone, I've been busy replacing everything I can in my free time. So far I've done: new battery, alternator, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, new rear shocks and springs(which sit a little lower then I'd like) put in rear 6x9 speakers , two 10in subs in a ported box connected to a 950 max amp, and a 1.5 fared capacitor. I also patched the broken fuel lines, unfortunately to no avail. The problem is they are so rusted any flexing on them to get a patch in, it cracks somewhere else. So I guess ill be replacing all of it as soon as I can, for now ill have to deal with a small drip every now and then.

Any way when I was getting the cap I asked for the one that fits a chevy 305. When I looked at it I knew it was not what I had in my car, what I had was for the 307.. According to wiki the wagons in my year came with the olds 307, so which do I have?

Well if it is that's rather upsetting. From what I've read it isn't a very good motor, especially for light modifications. any ideas on some thing I can do to get a little pep out of it?

They aren't a BAD engine...just don't have much power. Not much you can do about it but I will give you an article that surprised me. Some guys did one of these engines and got 434 hp out of it. That's NOT a common thing with this engine. The article is in.....
    Popular Hot Rodding...Feb, 09 issue.
There is another 307 build article in the November issue...same mag, same year.

Frankly....I've owned 5 or so of these engines and always changed them out because it was actually, from my stand point, more cost efficient. Joe Padavano is well versed in Olds engines and may have more info than I do. You may want to PM him. I never built one of the 307's and he may have. I know what to do to get more out of it but, again, it is MY feeling that an engine swap is a better way to go if you want more snort. If you want to keep the 307 and want more out of it let me know and I can tell you what you can do.

    Problems, problems, and..

Dear wagon gods, why do you keep trying to take her from me?

In need of assistance, once again.

1)Car has voltage problems at idle. New battery, new alternator. belts and idle adjusted. I did read that the other belts might need to be replaced? im going to try an alternator that puts out a few more amps.

    2) ticking sound in transmission, shop says its on its way out. someone suggested it could be a cracked flex plate?

now ive been trying to get this engine to run right since i got the car and its not really something im particularly attached to. I would like to try a swap and it seems like it would be cost effective to buy another car and transfer everything over. If i can do that, what should i look for?
I did see a possibility of using a 91 carburated cop car? is that a reasonable idea?
