this one just popped up!...its near where bernie got his! http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/1730581707.html not a wagon but holy balls!!! 15k!!! http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ctd/1705303492.html while we are on the subject of low low miles http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ctd/1745762467.html
Define "Excellent MPG" With the 351, stock VV 2 barrel carb and 2.73 rear end I was pretty lucky to get 15mpg on the highway. Nice car though and pretty rare with the 351.
Thing about gas mileage is you have to compare it with other vehicles from that same year. My 72 Mark IV gets about 13 around town and 17-18 on the hwy. in 1972 at .35 a gallon that was Great mileage. Now at 2.89 a gallon it makes it an occasional driver.
That LTD wagon looks to be in pretty good condition. And it even has the super rare ford roof rack spoiler!
351's are a rare find indeed. This one looks to be in excellent shape. Too bad it has the standard 14" wheels; the 15's fill up the wheel well much better. An easy fix, I guess.
When did Ford stop with the roof rack spoiler? my Chevy has it, but the 89 Merc doesnt. Was it even available in 89? If so i need to have one.
The "Panther" wagons never came standard with an air deflector...but it was an option. It was offered all the way through the Panther's end in 1991. For whatever reason, though, they did not seem to be too popular. I don't know why. The majority of the Panther wagons with the roof rack AND air deflector seem to be the higher-optioned cars. As far as the GM B-body wagons go, not all of them had roof racks as standard equipment...I think that the Electra Estate did (but not the LeSabre Estate) and according to my 1990 Oldsmobile (Canadian models) brochure goes, the Custom Cruiser did (although I've seen plent of CC's w/o a roof rack at all). It seems that when the roof rack was standard equipment, so was the air deflector...I could be wrong though. On the wagons that had the roof racks as optional, you could get them with OR without the air deflector. In my experience, a B-body wagon with a roof rack and without the air deflector is somewhat rare. They are around, but a large majority of the B-body wagons with roof racks also have the air deflectors.
The full-size Ford and Mercury wagons from 1969 through 1978, if optioned with a roof rack, usually came with an integrated air deflector (attached to the trailing ends of the rack's side-rails) trimmed with the woodgrain Di-Noc, whether or not the car body had the woodgrain. I have seen a few of this vintage wagon over the years that had a smaller roof rack with no integrated air deflector, but these racks were probably installed at the dealer, not the factory. With the 1979 downsizing, many of the Ford and Mercury big wagons with roof racks did not have the integrated air deflector. It was no longer standard with the roof rack. My '90 C.P. is one of these. The trailing ends of the side rails extend far enough for the air deflector, but it is absent. The mid 60's to 1970 GM full size wagons could be optioned with the rack, the air deflector, or both, but the air deflector was not integral to the rack. For the clamshell redesign (1971-1976), you could get a rack, but I have not seen one with a deflector, unless it was an aftermaket add-on. With the 1977 downsizing, GM went to a rack design very similar to Ford's '69-'78 look, with an integrated air deflector. In the first couple of years of this smaller body style, the Olds, Pontiac and Buick wagons had matching woodgrain on the deflector if the body had woodgrain. The Chevrolet Caprice wagons had a brushed metal look for the deflector, regardless of body trim. Probably way TMI
definitely a lot of info about a part that most people dont pay any attention to. My Caprice has it, the Colony Park doesnt. I thought a friend had the spoiler on a country squire he was parting out, but no. So ill keep my eye out for one in a salvage yard somewhere. Probably something i wont ever find, but will give me something else to look for, among the rest of the list.
I've got an air deflector for the Fairmont. New still in the box unpainted even. It's rare enough that I can't decide if I should install it.
That's a nice Lincoln. Wonder what engine that is. I have long forgotten how to tell on the Ford engines. I know I had a 77 Continental that still had the 460 in it. Looked like this engine but the air cleaner was a different configuration. This may be a 400.
