I appreciate the advise and always take it as I need it for sure :)

I do have one luxury of having owned so many galaxies so I can probably scrounge up some old wheels and tires for paint time.
I'm kinda bummed the paint is so thin in some areas as I was hoping for a nice buff and drive, but some parts are just to thin. Especially the top. It's basically the original primer.

But your right, it's all there. It's some TLC away from being a really good driver.

On the K-H wheels, I'll snap a pic later today when it stops raining.

You do have a point, Rev. I like "honest" cars. All cleaned up real well that car would look like what it is. An old, rare and honest classic in stellar shape! How can you beat that?

it was restored then made to look all 'patina' (y)
..it was so well done that it fool'd 1/2 the Dragracing communtiy !!!:D
even the lettering was made to look 'original'

    Hey Rev,
That wagon your buddy did is cool. I didn't even think of a 'patina resto'. I have a friend of a friend in Kansas that does old lettering and things on cars and makes them look old, but never seen the actual paint job on a car like that. Tell your buddy that is way way cool.

Makes me think I shine her up and see just how good she looks. Maybe not magazine material, but cool to drive around.

I had a chance earlier to snap a shot of the Kelsey Hayes wheels I was talking about. I normally look for these in 15" on hi-po Ford stuff, but these are 14" original K-H.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

The March issue of Hemmings Classic Car is all unrestored originals. There is lots of attention to unrestored cars these days. Well maintained mechanically yes but most even leave the torn upholstery.

It's getting to be very popular now.(y) It really makes me unconcerned about my polished to the primer look.:biglaugh:

Well, I think you talked me into it. I'll get some tires, shine it up and see what's what.

Any advise as what products to use and what would be the best method of bringing the paint back ? I can go buy polish and wax, but anything out there someone's used that's awesome for flat sun baked paint ?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

What a great find. I would see if 3M has a product that would help.

If the paint is in decent shape, just dust it off with finer grits (800 and up wetsanded) and spray a clearcoat or two. I'd roller paint it, for a nice job.

just use a really mild abraisive "Cleaner Wax"...its ok to burn to the primer...thats what the look is all about :yup:
Like I say...A all original car...usually fetches more interest...you dont have to wonder whats under the paint:)

    NO!!!...do not sand the car!!:slap:
Just wax the crap out of it:thumbs2:

I think I will try the polish and wax the crap method and just see how it turns out... if it sucks I'll do the clearcoat..... crossing fingers.

It may be a bit as it's snowing here in Texas today... hard to believe.

Being from Cali I'm sure she thought she didn't see a ton of snow... :)

The way I see it is that car needs only two things.

    1. White wall tires.
    2. Full wheel covers.

Wouldn't the clear coat take away from the original paint? Also i have seen where older cars were clear coated and it started to peel off taking the paint with it.

63CP, that is such a cool car. The more pics I see of it, the better I'm liking it. That factory 4 spd has to be one of the neatest features of it. I'm with everybody else; throw some cleaner wax, elbow grease, whitewalls and the stock hubcaps on there and you are good to go. Did you find anything interesting in the trash under the seat? I'd say there's a great chance you did. Can't wait to see it after you clean 'er up. Good luck; I'll bet we're all be amazed when you put up the "post clean up" shots.

Thanks for all the feedback and kind words.

I picked up a set of Silvertown 800-14's with 1" whitewall yesterday at Wallace Wade tires in Dallas. Nothing like getting your old tires local if you can.

I have the original caps to put on also, just hadn't got around to it.

I think the only real resto I'll do on the outside is having the rims blasted and powdercoated before I put the tires on. I've got some surface rust on the inner flat part of the rim and figured it may be the best route to go. You don't see my of the actual paint color on the rim anyway with the hubcaps on.

    Stay tuned...
