Oh My God. That worked so well! It just pops from the gauge pods! You should be angling for some kind of a magazine shoot.

OK, guys, one of the reasons I took the speedometer apart was to re-install the Speedo needle. The previous speedo cable was too long and the exhaust guy must have put a loop in it to shorten it. Anyway, the loop tightened and put a bind on the cable. I was driving one day and the speedo started making noise and the needle was oscillating back and forth. It made a springy noise and the needle flew off! I was going to take it to a guy who specializes in gauges but never did.
Now that it's back together, I am getting a little chatter from the unit at 25-40 mph. I'm thinking of spraying a little WD40 up the shaft where the cable attaches. Any reason - why not.??

WD will evaporate and leave a gummy varnish behind. Pull the cable from the housing and give it a light coat of grease; ie, put a little grease on your fingers and rub it up and down the cable. Then re-insert it. You do this from the speedo end, not the trans. end.

Ok, this is a brand new cable but I understand that it could be the culprit. I'll try to make time today to pull it.
I went to Academy yesterday to get my hunting/fishing license and took the time to disconnect the cable in the parking lot because it was getting worse.

Technically, the inner sheath of modern cables are supposed to be Teflon, which isn't in need of lube, *but* with the cable looped the way it was, the Teflon may have been ripped inside. So if you use grease on it, use a teflon-based grease, as other grease bases can break the Teflon layer down.

Been busy doing other stuff...Since I installed the brake booster and repainted the Speedo I went hunting and downed 37 doves on my annual Dove hunt in Karnes City TX. ("Paladin-Paladin, where do you Roam?") The birds were flying and we had a great time. I went fishing a few times with not much luck. I of course play golf every Tuesday, but it's raining today so I'm stuck in the house.
I still haven't greased the Speedo cable, but I have the grease. I'll do it this weekend. (gonna rain till Friday).
I'm a little concerned about the brake booster. It is inconsistent. When you fire it up after sitting overnight. The pedal feels fine and the brakes seem ok. After driving, and an hour or better stoppage, the pedal is semihard and takes a lot of pressure but the vehicle stops.
In a perfect world, I would take the booster back to AutoZone and get another one. But there are no replacement boosters in stock nationwide and it took several weeks to get this one back from A1 Cardone. Aside from sending it back to A1 Cardone, my option is to find a different aftermarket booster system that is adaptable to the 60 Chevy. I'd probably lose my investment in the current set-up but I need confidence that Sarge will stop.

At the end of the day the only thing that matters is good brakes.

As the guy who did my drum to disc conversion told me, "You gotta have GO, and you gotta have WHOA".

My neighbor took a job at O'Reilly's and I asked him to do a nationwide search to see if he could find a replacement booster. He texted me yesterday...he found one!
It's still raining, but as soon as it stops I'll pull the old one and go exchange it. That may be tomorrow.
