Thanks wagoninsane. Someone had painted part of them brown. There was rust staining a number of places and there were some pieces that were broken so those had to be plastic welded and then reinforced from the back side. They aren't perfect by any stretch, but they are waaaaaaaay better than what is in there now. And as always, this car is meant to be driven, so I don't ever want anything to be "perfect" per se, I want it to be nice but functional.

What do they use as a reinforcement on the backside?

They used some plastic web mesh. I think I am going to coat the entire backside with a rubberized sealant of some sort for added strength.

The car I took the tailgate out of had a set, but I think they were red or orange.

I know the feeling, my 85 spent most of it's life outside exposed to uv rays in So Cal and lots of interior parts are shrunk, split or just plain disintegrating I'm hoping I can find some replacements or I'll have to break down and get them recovered with material as closely matched to original as I can.

My pal that’s working on the intake for me had a spacer 3D printed to ensure fit and finish.

Cool spacer, hopefully it'll work as an insulator & help reduce or prevent any potential heat issues. I used to grab any phenolic resin spacers I could find for my carbs every time I took a trip to the wreckers.

He’s going to CNC the actual spacer out of aluminum. I was going to mention that, but it looks like I forgot.

Ask him if he can machine one from phenolic plastic. You and your carb will be much happier in the Southwest and Southern Midwest heat. Barring that, thick pressed paper gaskets under both the spacer and the carburetor, along with long-enough studs to reach through all the layers.

On Babe, I have a factory aluminum Windsor manifold, so I got a factory phenolic spacer from a 5.0L with CFI. I never have float bowl boil off even in 100+ degree temps.
