Headlights 43 years of leading the way! If we could only see where these have been! Ready for another 40!
That's the one big PLUS of these older cars. Real Glass Headlights. I saw some mid-80's plastic units today that the grocery store, and just shook my head. New lenses are like $150 and up. We change ours for under $10! Artwork Doc! At least 40 more years.
Nice work I have been in the body and paint field all of my life (25 yrs) and your work is nice. I can appreciate all the work you have done.
Its more of a FORD problem then any other. The plastic lenses in my 92 & 93 are very clear and clean still, as is my 98 Monte Carlo, my cousins 06 F150 is all checked already and it only has just over 40K on it, they look milky, not clear. They have always seemed to use the worst plastic available on all their cars since the mid 80s. Just look at the early 90's Taurus bumpers. They are brittle plastic and shatter on any impact.
Hey Dr. B, Quick question for you. I was wondering what you're doing for fasteners for the fiberglass wood trim pieces? I see the holes in sides of the wagon in your photos where the trim is screwed into a nut which is surrounded by a rubber grommet, if you know what I mean? Since those nuts/grommets are missing did you find a place that has them? I've tried to remove a couple of these on my Colony Park, but they pretty much break/disintegrate when I try to remove them. Regards, Martin
I think he might have mentioned it but just in case, this guy had the same problem with those fasteners and got them from Greg Donahue: http://www.rickwrench.com/index79master.htm?http://www.rickwrench.com/wood.html http://www.gregdonahue.com/ Molding Clips catalog 90 required for a '63 Falcon Squire at $3.75 each.
Martin, I have not ordered them yet, but I will likely go thru these guys in PA. http://www.restorationspecialties.com./new_products.htm
Has any one heard from the good doctor lately? This thread is what got me hooked on this forum. The doc and I have a lot in common. Both 67s, his is just bigger Best Rick
Rick he's down to the fine detail stuff, interior and accessories, etc. Takes more time than body work, as you know.
Sorry for the long delay in updates. The wagon is still at the body shop awaiting final installation of the rear gate. There were a few issues. I purchased a used gate from sunman ford in Oaklahoma. The gate was a non power window gate and had to be modified to accept the squire trim, and to fill in the hole for the manual window crank as well as installing the power window assembly. In the process, there are some missing parts. We are unable to locate my original window switch and key tumbler. :banghead3: Also, there has been a ton of accidents and my car had to be pushed aside while the new incoming cars were repaired. I will get some new pictures up next week hopefully. The front clip is installed. Once the rear gate is finished, I am bringing the wagon home and intstalling the interior. DR B
