Isn't this just a function of how often you touched a '77 or '78 Toronado? As far as I can tell, the system was not used in any other GM cars, and it was gone by 1979. At least, I can find no mention of it in any 1979 Olds brochures. (I do not have a '79 chassis service manual, so I can't check that, but you'd think if the MISAR system was still in place, it would continue to be used as a selling point.)
True, I have not touched a '78 Toronado, but I have dealt with and did research on other Oldsmobiles, and you'd think I would've seen it listed in all my reading.
Want to go for a ride in my Toro? I stuck the camera on the dash and took off. Total length of the video is about 25 minutes, but you can of course start and stop as you want. I had the local oldies station on, so there's nice background music and chatter. Early on (about the 1:50 mark), I point the camera slightly to the right so you can see the new power antenna going up and down. Exciting, I know. At about the 8:20 mark, I move the camera from the dash to sitting on the top of the passenger seat back, so that's why the video is a little more jiggly. At about the 11:30 mark, I move it back to the dash. At about 13:00, I come to a signal, and there is a McDonald's on the right with a Mustang waiting to turn right out of the parking lot. A few seconds later, you hear the roar of an engine accelerating away. That's the annoying Mustang coming up beside me on the right and then turning right (not caught on the video). At about 14:30, I momentarily move the camera down to show the speedometer area. At about 21:15, I move the camera down slightly to show the three gauges (temp, volts, RPM). I need the temp gauge because the idiot light is disconnected for complicated reasons. The others are just for fun.
Totally enjoyed the tour around your community. I did catch the antenna going up and you are right, it was exciting. I also noticed the Corvette broken down and the Mustang pulling out of McDonald's. I got a kick out of the radio comment about Trump's in-laws getting their citizenship, glad they got in under the wire. And the view of the mountains, amazing. You really live in a pretty place. Thanks for the drive, it was really smooth, I hardly felt a bump and almost nodded off.
Thanks. Yes, it is a scenic area, and, yes, I enjoyed (sort of!) the Trump in-laws joke. Glad you enjoyed the ride.
You mean turning it off in the middle of "Roxanne" when I pulled into the garage? Didn't even think of that. I am known for sitting in the car, whatever car I'm driving, for a few minutes when I reach wherever I'm going if there's a good song on and I want to let it finish.
I know this thread's last post was three years ago, but I was looking through it and realized that I saw this car in person in August at the Olds Nationals in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Since the car has the same license plate, I assume the fellow who brought it to the show is the same person who tried to sell it back in November 2017. It apparently never sold, and he kept it? Or did he buy and was able to keep the same license plate? I don't know how the license plate rules work in West Virginia. [/QUOTE]
