Hi all, My name is Dave and I'm an Autoholic Yeah us wagon folks may be a different breed but we know how to have fun. I've had more than my fair share of classic cars and I can honestly tell you that my little Tin Woody gets more attention than my 59 Impala Convertible ever did. I have always loved wagons as a kid. My kids have been raised in our old 86 Olds Custom Cruiser (which my brother in law now owns and his kids are growing up in it). And now our family enjoys weekend outings and shows in our 50 Chevy Deluxe Tin Woody. This is my first visit to this site and I can't wait to start browsing through here, I just wanted to say hello first.
Welcome Dave. I just want you to know that there's no cure for Autoholics, except another Auto. Most restorations take more than 12 posts, and although it may seem like a money pit, its all worth it after the first drive. Oh! and more pics when you get a chance ..... ready?
Welcome. It looks great! Even my worn down Cougar wagon gets more attention at the auto shows than the regular Cougars. Even the Fairmont types like it. My Mom and Dad had a 54 Bel Air tin woody when I was young. I'd sit in my Dad's lap and steer. Lots of travel around New England in those days. The funniest memory in that car was we stopped for gas, all four of us kids had to use the restroom and we all piled back in and left. No one noticed my sister missing until we had gone a few miles down the road. She was 13 at that time and mad as a hornet when we got back to the gas station. that's a 50 year old memory and we still laugh about it and she still gets pissed when that story is retold.
TBird I've got the same kind of story, a sister left behind, but I like your version better. Although, it was the brattiest one that got left, and the rest of us enjoyed the peace and quiet so much that we didn't say a word for about 1/2 a tankful in a 1939 Pontiac, back in 1954. The folks spoiled her rotten after they got her back, and my other sister and I never 'fessed up until we were in our teens. Got lots of dirty looks back then.
Hey guys thanks for the kind words and rolling out the welcome wagon I'm loving the lost sister stories I wish I had one of those to report but I guess I'm not that lucky. I will tell you one of my favorite wagon memories growing up as a kid. I think I was around 12 or so and I was spending the night at one of my best friends house. His parent's took us with them to the Drive-in (they mostly spoke Spanish so we went to see Mexican movies). Where am I going with this right? So if you know those movies, you know they don't have a shortage of naked females in them. We used to sit in the cargo area and every time a scene came up like that they would make us lay down so we couldn't see anything inappropriate for a minor. Well we discovered that the tailgate window was at the perfect angle and we could still see the movie reflecting on the glass. Yeah Yeah, I know that's a bad story but we boy's were entering our teens and very curious. Needless to say whenever he found out the Drive-ins were on the agenda...I was invited to sleep over.
My wife is Mexican. She only collects the old black and white cowboy romance flicks. I gotta ask her about yours! "Honey!! you're holding out on my complete Mexican cultural backgrounder!!!"
hey, hey, hey to the show...And that's a damn fine woodiewagon you got there...Once went to the Goodguys show in Orange County,in our 86 Colony Park.It wasn't entered in anything except the parking lot...But,as we were walking away from it,towards the front gates to get in,a little girl about four or five, holding her Daddy's hand, was pointing at our car and exclaiming."Daddy!Daddy! Look at that one!" She wasn't even in the car show yet,but it had allready started for her...
Howdee Dave!! Ive seen your car before on the net...H--B wagon thread i think she's a beauty! so is she on hydros or air?? Brother....Stovebolt is gonna be soooo up your keister Even tho hes got 4...59 chev wagons...he adores those Tinny's !! to the board and great stories !
Now, now, Rick, thats not true, I'm not gonna crawl up anything. Truth is, that car is actually junk. I personally think that what 1low50 should do, is send it right to me. I will relieve you of the burden of having to be seen in that car. I will immediatly send you a pm with my address so you can ship it to me with haste. I'm here for you man........................... OBVIOUSLY, I'm kidding, your car is beautiful!I have seen it before, and your car inspires. I BELIEVE I also saw it on my HAMB "Longroof" thread. Regardless, beautiful car, and welcome to the board.
Ah, I see how you guys operate Just kidding. Thanks for the welcome guys. My car rides on bags Rev and the rear frame has been bridged for clearance. I'm thinking about making it an open drive line and four linking it but still haven't decided on anything for sure yet. Hey Stovebolt, Maybe I'll take you up on your offer then and it can be your problem. what model 59's do you have? I see Parkwood under your avi but Rev say's you have four 59's. I registered on the HAMB a while back but I never posted and didn't see the longroof thread. I rarely visit that site, don't know why...I've seen good stuff there in the past. I'll go back and look for it
