Wow that is a beautiful wagon. Interesting how they opted for the two-tone paint and rally wheels etc.. but no power windows. Very nice though.

That has its advantages. There's less to go wrong and the vehicle is lighter. Vehicles ordered with less options are a clue to an older original owner. I'm sure, there are those out there, like I, who would rather prefer strip-downs (within reason, of course).

It's only considered a "strip-down" car by today's standards, not by the standards of the early 1970s. At that time, power windows and power locks were still seen as a high-end luxury. Even A/C was thought of that way, and at least this car has that. It also has the third seat and a power tailgate, so it has all the "right" options, even if it doesn't have all the options. I would call this car's level of optional equipment very much average for that era, even for high-end cars. Oldsmobile 98s and Buick Electras back then were available, and were purchased, with crank windows, no cruise, no power seats, no power locks, and an AM radio. No one thought of a car equipped this way as stripped. They were still symbols of prestige and luxury and comfortable to sit in and drive, and that's what people wanted.

The seller just suddenly ended this auction 5 minutes ago due to an "error" in the listing. It had been bid to $12,500 at the time with reserve apparently met. We'll see if it reappears.

    What a beaut.

This one looked exceptional. Definitely understand if the seller decided to keep it.

I agree... I have seen several early 70s Electras and Ninety-Eights, without having power windows, locks or even A/C. Most of those non A/C cars were northern USA or Canadian examples however. My old '72 Electra was very loaded with most everything, even the rare finger-tip wiper washer and my '73 Grand Ville has power windows, power locks, both of which were options, even on the top of the line Pontiac, though there are still several options it lacks such as cruise, FM radio and power trunk release.

I was pretty shocked that my old '69 Chevy Caprice had power windows, power locks, tilt, etc, most everything. It also had A/C, power disc brakes, FM radio, vinyl top, hide-away headlights and the 396 engine. I think that really wasn't the norm though back then. Most people didn't order all of that on a Chevy, even if it was a Caprice. I did happen to see a '65 Impala station wagon at a local cruise-in tonight that had power windows... that was pretty cool to see.

I actually think this Buick Estate is a 2-seater? I am guessing that because the 2nd seat is a solid seat and not a split seat like the 3-seaters have.

Yes this is a 2-seat wagon.

Excellent condition but I'm not huge on the color combo. Is this two-tone paint or is that a vinyl top?

GM has a specific RPO code for "non-recommended color combo" and I'd be curious to see if this owner was asked to check that box on the order form.

I don't mind the exterior color combo so much. They should have chosen either black or white for the interior, though. I guess, people back then just bought stuff, without thinking on re-sale.

Yes, as bigboats noted, it is a 2-seat. My mistake.

Explanation for the relisting sounds honest enough. Reserve now met at $12k.
