Funny you should say that. A comedian back during WW II made about the same observation. But I cannot remember who it was.
Perhaps, their domination is attempted rather theatrical than global? If they'd wear kilts with no underwear beneath, perhaps they could financially strengthen their nation, through increased tourism revenues?
Thank you for the kind words. I have no intention of changing the engine. Keeping the car as original as possible is what matters to me. Yes, I've obviously had to replace parts that have worn out or deteriorated, that can't be helped, but the engine isn't one of them. I'm not looking to race the car nor cruise down the highway at 90 miles per hour. I'm sure its current engine will move it around just fine.
Just found the XS parts cars on eBay. Wanted to pass along the link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-1878-O...do-/182005389390?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
What a shame. It isn't totalled out. There's enough there to save. It should find its way back onto the road.
Thanks for the links. I've seen several parts cars on ebay in recent months. I don't need enough parts to justify buying another whole car, not to mention the issues of getting it home and finding a place to store it. That ebay listing wants about $2500 for two parts cars that don't have engines nor drivetrains. That's a lot of money, in my opinion.
The car came back from the paint shop today. Exactly 7 weeks to the day since I brought it in. Yes, there's lots more to do (find a hood ornament, get the back glass reglazed, clean the vinyl top, new tires, get the A/C fixed, get the antenna to go down all the way, and more), but I at least I can smile when I go out to the garage. A couple from before the repaint, just as a reminder. Now a few from today.
I bought them and gave them to the shop to paint and install. He told me that they needed some "body work" themselves (mainly trimming) to get them to fit. I think he did a superb job. I got the new inserts here. This link is for the left side. There's a right-side piece also. The photo isn't the greatest, but this is what they look like. They're fiberglass. http://www.replica-plastics.com/product/ot-75-rlx-rear-left-quarter-panel/
Looking good! Congrats! Never noticed this before, but that flags-of-the-world emblem below the Toronado badge on the rear deck comes from a Cutlass Salon of the same vintage. My mom had a 1976. Bottom right.
Here's a hood ornament if you would also like a spare header panel and grille. Really might not be bad to snap up and store away to keep for the price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-78-Old...le-/391835348878?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
