High class lady gets the heart of a cop.

Well gang, I did a bit of horse trading and got a 1973 Ford Galaxie 500 C code police interceptor with a complete 460 PI engine.
The car is in rough shape, and I haven't decided weather or not to restore it, but in the meantime my classy lady, the barge is getting at least temporarily the heart of a cop!

Well here's a few pics as promised.
Here we are loading her up with come alongs onto the trailer. here she's sitting nice and pretty on the trailer. here's the other side rear view, like the whip? that's all for now, more pics and updates as I find out the condition the engine is in.

 

Looks fairly straight; how much rust does it have? And do you have any engine compartment pics to show?

 

It should have the 140 mph speedometer which I imagine is fairly rare by now. I would definitely save that if you do wind up junking the car. Overall it looks pretty solid though.

 

Whenever I see one of those Fords, the image of jumping comes to mind. I guess I watched too much The Streets of San Francisco when I was a kid.

 

Well looking at the door tag DSO and the color scheme I think it was a New Orleans Police Department car...

I have to laugh because when I think of a '73 Ford, I think of David Soul, "Hutch," in Starsky and Hutch:

 

Well I changed the oil and filter cause there was gas in the oil... the gas tanks got a hole in it, and I found a fuel pump in the engine compartment, so I guess the fuel pump in the tank is bad.
I tried to gently bar over the engine but she's stuck, so I pulled the plugs and ran some marvel mystery oil down there. I'll let that soak and get back to it tomorrow.
Anyway here's the pics of the engine, it dosent look that bad IMHO.
the crankcase cooler isn't hooked up, but the hoses where routed there already.
The police constant fill bottle in the low middle. The police speedometer, just cause you asked. Also notice the low gear lockout.

I should have posted earlier, but after a bit of gentle rocking of the engine, the pistons freed, so I replaced the plugs, points, cap, wires, plugged in a fresh battery, sprayed some starting fluid in the carb and turned the key, and she started right up and rumbled for a bit... after putting in a manual fuel pump and rigging up the lines though a gas can, I went to start it... float was stuck in the carb so it sprayed fuel all over... so swapped carbs with the barges, and she fired up and ran, sounds even, and like a muscular beast! But the without belts I didn't run it long... I think the water pump is stuck as I can't turn the fan, so I'll remove that tomorrow, but at least we're making progress.

 

Ok after taking off the pump which was jammed with rust and scale and cleaning out the passageways the best that I could. I buttoned everything back up, installed new belts... and she runs!

Sounds OK. I would recommend a pint of MMO or ATF in the oil to help clean up the passages and lifters, make sure that there's no rattle, assuming the book's right and it does have a hydraulic lifter camshaft.

 

Guess I know what to do with the rest of that bottle of MMO I got to loosen up the stuck cylinders.

 

And you should change the oil and filter after 500 miles. There's no telling what may have lurked in that engine as it sat.
