You would think,in Commie Castro Cuba,a totalitarian dictatorship that hated America and all things American---the government would've gotten rid of all those symbols of American decadence, the longest @ss time ago---but NOOOOOOOOO!!!! It's here in democratic free America where the government is working hard at getting rid of nice old American cars.
The reporter DID put her trendy bias against old American cars on display. The Cadillac probably DID have the engine transplant, because the old Caddy V8 had run out of all nine lives...I saw a show about Cuba,a few years back, where the host of the show rode around in a 56 Chevy with Ford and Mopar parts on it.Including a Ford inline six hooked up to the Chevy three-on-the-tree,with a Chrysler carb on top. Many of those cars are so Frankensteined,it's a wonder they still look original...:)

Gasoline runs about $3.50/gallon there. Diesel is half that. Plus, old Russian vehicles (and most of the Japanese vehicles) there are Diesels, and therefore, a decent supply of available powerplants are available.

Back in time Dodge did have some thing to do with Rushian trucks pre WWII, I just can't find all the real "poop" rite now. Ford did also, here is some brief history about the conection. War time efforts saw alot of North American tech go volintarily into soviet hands.

I noticed that several of them DID have familiar looks...The B pillars, the shapes of doors.I would not be surprised to find out that successfull American trucks influenced the looks of other trucks around the world.Even on the other side of that Iron Curtain.

Interesting Teddy. I recall when Fiat made a deal with Russia for their Lada version. Wonder where Fiat will take GM? Or whether Magna will do an Opel version in Russia.

Thanks again you guys for constantly teaching me car stuff. Its amazing how much you can learn about history on this site. I am 35 years old and I am focusing most of my brain that is reserved for all things car, on 70's impalas. Mabey its because my brain can only deal with so much, but some of you'll are just plain gifted in the car knowledge department.

I wonder what station wagon would make the best boat to go from Cuba to Florida. I, of course, would think a clamshell would look the best, but a 90's caprice might be pretty watertight. If you could get that dumptruck, or the people hauler full of people to float, you could really get some folks out of dictator land. When I would see those old cars made into boats it really made me appreciate being here. My dad escaped communist Czechoslovakia to get to the USA. We sure are lucky to have freedom.

In my teens,I had a dream that "carplanes" of the future looked like cars of the early 70's...Me and my delta-winged 72 Lincoln Mark IV(which had been damaged and wasn't going to ba able to leave the atmosphere)ended up crashing Kamakze style into a launch bay of the Evil government's airforce, thus allowing others to escape to the moonbase...The trick is in making the carboats quick and maneuverable,in the water as well as on land. The carboats I've seen on TV are small and little more than a buoy.

now THAT is NOTHING like the Amphicars I've been seeing on TV...Way faster than that Duck thing Stacey David had on Trucks,a few years back,too...I think it's advantage is,that the wheels have nothing to do with it being a boat...There's no rudder on an Amphicar, you navigate by steering with the front wheels and "go" because the rear wheels and a rather small propeller are spinning in the water...This DEFINITELY goes faster than the two or three knots,an Amphicar can muster up...Looks like you can only get one person at a time, out of Cuba in a GATOR, though...You want to free a lot of Cubans, you need a 70's wagon version of this thing...Or a school bus version...A truly Skool Bus...

The deal with the brain is fill to capacity and then rest. During rest the little guy up there files. Then fill again and rest...then he files again. Just like a PC the files sometimes get lost and you can't find them. Rest again. If you still can't find the file it will appear during the most unrelated times such as during sex. So, you either stop and write it down or the file gets lost again.:rofl2: Some files are just not ever retrievable.

Wait until you're 50. Lost files become more frequent and harder to find. And they just don't pop up as much. The good thing is that there's no interuptus during those more enjoyable activities.
