Correct me if I'm wrong but I can't find a wagon in Fords' (USA) current line up?????
Don't think we've ever had woodie down here.
The only thing I noticed is a little styling similarity (bit of a stretch) to the Ford Fusion front end/bumber section.

We don't get Ford wagons unless you consider the Flex as a wagon. Ford dropped the Taurus X due to poor sales.

Americans don't seem to like wagons much.

Ford calls the Flex a crossover.Subaru was the first to use the term, and in relation to the Outback and the Forester. The Outback is often called a wagon. The Forester is an SUV body on a car platform. The Flex is called new and innovative and advanced, but gets just slightly better mpg's than my 24 year old Colony Park. It's an Explorer body on a car platform. The Flex is supposed to be competition for that Scion XB thing.I think of both the Flex and the XB as being minivans.
And yes, there really DOES seem to be a bias against stationwagons.Just as there are now biases against minivans and SUV's,the so-called "stationwagon replacements" of the 80's and 90's.I think "crossover" is the next trendy terminology for stationwagon replacement. If Scion and Ford are expecting the XB and Flex to be big sellers,I do believe we will see them cease production fairly soon.If they treat these models like Dodge did the Viper, and only expect meager sales and not be disappointed by them, than they may be around a while.
Now,if Ford got smart, and started offering hybrid drivetrains in more than two models, including the Flex, than they might make a big hit of it yet...And in a post script of sorts,my wife and I find the new Prius commercials, with the weirdly dresed people undulating about,to be rather disturbing. And they really aren't convincing me that I need to buy a Prius...

Kinda creeps my wife out, too - she can't watch it.

I'm trying to think if we have any actual STATION WAGONS currently being built / sold in the U.S. and I can't think of any. Supposedly, the P.T. Cruiser is a 'station wagon', but I look at it as more of a 4-door hatchback. (It's VERY versatile, by the way. I had one as a company vehicle for a while.) The Flex, in my opinion, IS a station wagon, although Ford doesn't call it that. It's size (except for a taller height) compares very favorably with an old Country Squire.

These days, it makes more economic sense for manufacturers to build specific 'soft-ute' vehicles off front-wheel drive sedan platforms, rather than just station wagon versions of the sedans themselves. A modifled platform can accomodate all-wheel drive running gear, and allow for the additional height that buyers seem to want - to establish 'superiority' on the road.

Here in America, there is a Hybrid-Fusion available, that gets 41 mpg...I've heard there is a diesel version in Europe that can get around 60 mpg,but it just ain't available in The States...How 'bout down there in Australia?

It's a fine looking wagon too. Thanks.

Station wagons got hammered as big-a$$ gas guzzlers for at least 10 years. I'm not surprised the companies are staying away from the name. Too expensive to turn pre-concepts around.

Some guy in Australia has developed a Solar-heated steam battery installed in a Country Squire or Colony park. It heats up water to beyond 700 F and stores the heat in a chemical gel. The car only weighs an extra 800 lbs, and cranks out 200 HP from Revolution Number ONE. He claims it'll run all day and until dawn before he needs to leave it for a few hours in sunlight. "Look ma, I pass all the stations."

Can you imagine how the blue-eyed oil shieks would faint, if only the Southern states had those? Can't use it where it would freeze up, but that's a huge chunk of emissions off the road, and big vehicles that don't pollute.

I think there's a link to it here:

Even before Chrysler announced it was going bankrupt and might need to be bought out by somebody---anybody...They announced the discontinuation of the PT Cruiser. It was listed as a light truck/minivan during it's existence.(more power,no smog tests---at first)Car critics were complaining that it's looks hadn't changed very much.Apparently it was supposed to be different looking every other year'like Camrys, but Priuses don't change and that's okay...Maybe Fiat will bring the PT Cruiser back.

As recently as a few years ago,the LA Times was re-spreading some of the lies about stationwagons.(1)They only came with the biggest most gas guzzling engines,because(2)they were built six to eight inches longer than their sedan counterparts. In the middle for more room inside.And(3)were never rated as getting better than 12 mpg city and 16 mpg highway.And(4)were known to make way more pollution than their sedan counterparts, because they were bigger, weighed more and had the bigger engines...Nothing in there about the 80's wagons getting 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway or coming close to qualifying as Low Emmission Vehicles.Or that the only thing longer on a stationwagon was the roofline. An 86 Grand Marquis coupe,an 86 Grand Marquis sedan and an 86 Colony Park are all the exact same overall size. The engines are exactly the same...I think the people leading this "anti-stationwagon" movement, have always been the "bad kids" who had to sit in the back-backseat,because it was the "punishment seat" in their family...They are the same people who still claim that 10% of the cars(the big old ones)make 90% of the smog, eventhough scientific studies have proven that claim false. There's nothing these people won't do to get rid of nice old cars.I'm sure you remember the claim that Saddam Hussein laughed with joy, every time an American bought an SUV.Another falsehood. As is the claim that our nice old cars are Crimes Against Humanity and the Environment.

I really thought that the US was the 'home' of the station wagon? I'm really surprised that they are no longer built.
Station wagons have had a revival here particularly with GMH's new range of sportwagons. Ford wagons populariy has declined over the years, however that may be due to some really bad design ideas from Ford Australia. Through numerous model changes, Ford seemed to only change the nose of their wagon. Great for saving money I guess?

The most popular wagon (real station wagons, not 4WDs) in Australia is without doubt GM Holden. These are popular for businesses, Family cars & rev heads:).
Ford only offers the one wagon, with the V6 engine.
GMH offers many levels of it's wagon from the simple to the luxury appointed and to the race bred model. With a choice of engines for the luxury class. For the V8 wagon lover, GMH offers the entry level SS.
Not aware of GMH or Ford Hybrids, but I really have not looked for them either?!

GMH had invested $millions to export the sportwagon to the US, however with what's happened GM has obviously had to stop the importation of the wagons. I think they may have been rebadged as Pontiac ? for the US market.
