This falls under the headline: 'Pathetic plea for attention', I guess. But if anyone is sitting at that keyboard looking for ANOTHER way to kill time while you should be doing something productive, You could click on my column and spend a couple of minutes reading MY brilliant comments. Most of the people who read what I write on Examiner.com are probably "Cubicle Slaves" who are trapped in the fabric covered box until the clock turns five, just like I was for 8 years. The bottom line is, I earn a whole USA American penny every time anybody even clicks on my page. I try to be interesting and funny, without going so far as to get fired. Again. Just check out my McDonalds sign in 'Burger War II.' If you have a minute, would you check it out? Suggestions are VERY welcome, guys. So long as they are anatomically possible. And hamburger related. No matter how tenuous that relation may be. http://www.examiner.com/x-8396-Orlando-Burger-Examiner BTW, thats my real name up there.... And oh, yeah: "long roof cars rule." As if you all didn't know that.
Well, you got my 2 cents worth, now here's what I think... Well done. I'd go to those spots because of the good detail in your piece. Just enough to whet the appetite and not haughty-taughty. Thanks.
Very interesting...... Saw your column on the Del Taco burger. I didn't know that MY paper (the OC Register) named the Double Dell the best fast food burger. I would have to differ with that one, but coincidently, I had one for the first time yesterday, and I was reasonably impressed - wasn't bad. In case you haven't heard, we have a place out here called In-N-Out that is just killer.........try one next time you're on the left coast. You also mentioned that your local Del Taco used to be a Fazolli's. We had one close by here. Food was good. It closed. Now is something called Tutu Fresco.....same food, different name.
Good reads Dale but you can't tell me that you could'nt find a pic of an old station wagon for your "summer time is grillin' time" write up??... I guess I fast fooded myself out in my teen years. Even before health put me on a permanant restricted diet my wife and I did'nt eat FF burgers or FF in general. When my daughter was in her teens she worked at Qwiznos for a bit, We'd go there now and then but only nites she worked.....I'd get special loaded Dad steak subs In my teens the only thing around was McD's and DQ and I got sick of them by the time I was in my early 20's. There was an Arbys and a Burger King for a little while but they did'nt last, Now burger Thing and every one is all over the place. In my teens, the best time to posion your self with fast food, There was a Wendys and a Burger King up island. So it was'nt just a "lets eat", it was a week end day trip with a friend and your girl friends to drive over an hour for Wendys or almost 2 hours for Burger King, hit a beach, go cart, mini golf etc Reading that fast food joints are hurting in this economy does'nt bother me, I can only hope the people who are not going there are "maybe" eating a bit better. That food is not good for you, plain and simple. Your "Summer is grillin' time", thats what burgers are all about
Good article on the Hamburger. Yes we love them downunder as well!! We don't have many specialty chains for burgers. Of course we have McDonalds & Hungry Jacks(Burger King). But these are not 'real' hamburgers!! I remember back in the '70s a chain tried opening here, before Mcdonalds & Hungry Jacks, Their name had something to do with a barn? Big barn or Red barn something like that??.......But they were too early for the Australian market. You do find some excellent burgers in 'fish & chip' shops, but that's more a game of chance. Other than those the only REAL burger is my own Tony's special!!! (Yes I also add dressing & mayo!!)
Ha! Great minds think alike department? I just posted a review of a fish N chips place that serves burgers! Its called High Tide Harry's.
Thanks, and don't worry. Its coming. I'm working on a story about cruise nights at burger places. I'm calling it "Cruising for Burgers." I'll try to find a cool tricked out wagon other than my own to shoot at the local burger palace for that one.
Out where the Rev lives, there's a beach where folks go every morning to scoop up clams. It's part of a federal wildlife sanctuary. I'm sure there's lots of ways to do a good clam bake piece. He's on the West Coast of Canada. The beach is called Tssawassen. Low Tide cookin'. So what's that?, a BBQ-powered wagon? Coal Briquette fired? The only wagon with a solar parabolic to microwave it in 800 degree rays? You otta draw up a cartoon wagon for that piece. Some well-known sporty wagon where the grille is the cooking surface, the handles hold the BBQ tools, and the hood ornament is some spicy hotsauce or recipe holder. I don't know, but some visual aid wizardry.
The Long Roof Burger Stand Cookout! Cow patties (early frisbees) our specialty! One Cow Pattie feeds the whole family!
Somewhere in Austrailia, a Holden (wagon?) gave its life for our meat eating pleasure. 'Roo burgers, anyone? Hey, I just got an idea for a future column; I'll write about mooseburgers, 'rooburgers, maybe even ostrichburgers! Thanks, guys.
Got the front end covered.......http://jalopnik.com/photogallery/holdengtsbbq/2055604 Sorry PineBox I didn't realise you had posted a similar pic.
So, GMWAGN, I just read this in the New York Times: http://bitten.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/08/burgers-the-australian-way/ I'm betting YOU don't do it this way. I can see ground 'roo meat, tomato, lettuce, onion. I'm fine with chili mayo. Even the fried egg sounds pretty good. But BEETS? Pineapple? Please tell me it isn't so.
